But why read to dogs? Studies show dogs can learn 250 words or more. However, reading doesn’t guarantee your dog will “speak” with fine articulation and clarity. Studies do prove that the average dog is as smart as a toddler, and for toddlers, reading to them regularly promotes the following:
• language recognition,
• improved listening and concentration skills,
• and eased separation anxieties.
After all, intelligent dogs are happiest when they receive a great deal of mental stimulation and exercise.

Children also benefit from reading to dogs. According to one study as reported by the Boston Globe and as seen on CBS News, children with reading challenges who read to dogs improved their reading and communication skills. Reading to dogs transforms a “have to” chore to a “want to” experience that’s fun and rewarding. Dogs can be better listeners, who don’t judge and criticize, allowing for ease and forgetting one’s own fears.

“For adults, this book offers a unique and imaginative way to strengthen one’s social and communicative engagement with our beloved family friends,” says Michael Gordon, Psychologist, William Paterson University.

No other book, except Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, offers such rewarding benefits. A revolutionary idea, Brett Banjo transcends colorful artwork and engaging stories for both dog and person into special moments of quiet and soft play.
