The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) encourages all high school seniors to apply for the Tennessee Promise scholarship before the November 3 deadline. Tennessee Promise is a last-dollar scholarship that covers tuition and mandatory fees not already paid by the Pell Grant, HOPE Scholarship, or Tennessee Student Assistance Award. Students may use the Tennessee Promise scholarship at any of Tennessee’s 13 community colleges, 23 Tennessee colleges of applied technology (TCATs), or other participating four-year public and private colleges offering an associate degree program....

The Sewanee Fire Department serves the community by protecting lives and property over an 84-square-mile territory and by providing mutual aid assistance to neighboring communities for their fire and rescue needs. In 2024, the Fire Department responded to 265 calls, including structure and wildland fires, vehicle extrications, rope rescue operations, and mutual aid to Marion and Grundy County. During the academic year, the department consists of volunteers from the community, university students, faculty, and staff....

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has announced $968,000 in grants from the Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) for parks and recreation planning for 18 communities across the state. The Planning Grant Program provides state funding to match local government investments for communities that want to create or update a Parks and Recreation Systemwide Plan. This is an 80 percent state and 20 percent community matching grant. Grundy County received the only area grant for $48,000.
