Homemade yogurt is a completely different experience than the store bought kind. And this moment, the first spoonful dragged across the top of fresh yogurt, is the moment you know how good it’s going to be. I’ve had problems making yogurt these past few years. I used to make it weekly but after having kids - my mind is in a million places at once - and I would leave it on the stove too long or forget I had it in the oven and turn it on 😬, or just mess it up. This time I used clay pot. I thought I overheated the milk but still poured it in and left it in my oven on the bread proofing setting for 24 hours. The result was perfection. I love how the clay pot looks and feels like the clay containers you can buy yogurt in in Türkiye. Link in bio to shop the pot! And thank you to for gifting it to me and my family. They import the pots direct from Türkiye❤️🇹🇷🇺🇸🇺🇸🧿❤️.

One of our American friends will be getting İstanbul as a gift now. ❤️🇹🇷❤️ Thank you for thinking of us. Go out and buy this cookbook - such great classic recipes in here, easy to follow. I’ve never met a recipe of hers that let me down (no çay bardağı translations necessary!). I might even give Su Böreği a try!

These are barbunya that we grew in our garden last year. We’re growing them again this year from the dried beans that we saved. I love being in the garden with my kids and we grow everything we can to be able to cook Turkish dishes from garden fresh ingredients. ❤️🇹🇷🇺🇸🫶🏻🧿❤️

You can be completely fluent in your second language but your native tongue is the one you default to for math.

My 🇹🇷 husband couldn’t make it so I took our 🇹🇷 🇺🇸 kids to the NY Turkish Festival in Madison Square. What a great day. I’m so glad we went and to everyone who stopped to chat and was so kind - thank you 🙏. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you all ❤️🇹🇷🇺🇸🫶🏻🧿❤️

I call it “intentional immersion”. I’m learning Turkish as an adult with a full time job, two small kids and two time-consuming hobbies (tennis and gardening). I think about this as my system to get the level of exposure I need to continue to improve my level — without upending my life.

The conversation gaps that shouldn’t be conversation gaps. Good thing I like to smile because that usually gets me through them!

Give a Turk a piece of bread and no sauce is safe. ❤️🫶🏻🇹🇷🇺🇸❤️
