More than 10,000 people have now had COVID-19 in Maine.

The Maine CDC reported 165 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of reported cases over the 10,000 mark in the state, to 10,123. The additional death reported is a man in his 70's from Cumberland County.

According to preliminary data, the experimental vaccine appears to be 94.5% effective. Pfizer announced last week that it’s competitor vaccine is 90% effective.

The director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention says the Moderna vaccine for the coronavirus that showed promise in an ongoing study would benefit rural parts of the state in terms of equitable distribution.
