José Gonzalez and Anunt Singh are the artists behind recording studio , though you may recognize Gonzales as a guitarist for and Singh as drummer for .

Before starting SpiceHouse in 2023, the two racked up years of individual experience.

Gonzalez began recording almost as soon as he learned to play guitar. “I wanted to capture the sound I was creating.” From there he went on to record anyone he could. He started out with a setup in his family living room, his mom navigating mic stands and cables as she moved about the house. He began to grow a client base and started reaching out to musicians all over the state. By the time he was 19, he had a thriving solo-recording business.

Singh took a slightly different approach. He grew his skill around what some might call a “traditional” work schedule as a machinist. Audio engineering is “a huge passion of his,” said Gonzalez. When most of us are scrolling or watching the latest movie, “it’s what he does in his spare time.”

After Singh recorded, mixed and mastered a Condado release, Gonzalez told Singh, “Let’s just be business partners.”

The name SpiceHouse is a nod to their desire for precision, and their love of the culinary arts — and they’ve been cooking ever since.

You can hear their work with bands from around the state, like , , and many others. Check out spicehousenc.com.

has been growing the dance music scene in Moore County for much of the last year, during shows like the Sunset Parties with and .

Originally from Sanford, he learned to play music when he was about 5 years old — playing guitar and piano but mostly percussion.

“I was in a lot of small bands. I was always in bands, but they just never really took off,” Horton said in an interview last year, adding that he was more focused on his day job in those years.

Growing up, he said he was always told to do something “practical.” Then some projects, like Left Early and Violet Exploit, flipped the script.

A few years ago, he began to combine his skills to produce his own music, and found support in Raleigh and Durham from DJs who helped him gain knowledge and experience.

Horton’s most recent album, “Area 51,” is part concept album using synthesizers from the early 80s. He wanted to mix classic dance tracks with his own style to make “music you can purely dance to,” he said.

He wants to help foster a collaborative dance music scene that reflects his experience in the county, learning from local DJs, creating his album and with the bands that he played with in the past.

“I’ve worked with a lot of great people. There’s too many great musicians in this county – it really is a special place.”

came to music through writing. He learned the guitar as a teenager and used that as a tool to accentuate his work.

“I had this great English teacher, named Miss Martin, who, when we were doing poetry, would let me bring my guitar in. If I had a song, she’d let it count for points,” said Robinson in an interview with Pilot Radio.

He moved to Charleston for school, where he honed his guitar through gigs in bars, and then began to build his songwriting skills creating music for a non-denominational church looking for modern worship music.

The next years of his life he spent touring and songwriting in Nashville, before moving back home to Richmond County. Robinson now spends much of his time teaching at Casino Guitars, and he’s a regular face on the shop’s YouTube channel.

You can still see him touring regionally as The Jonathan Robinson Band, and he wants to release a new album this year. But he said he couldn’t do any of it without the support of his wife and family.
