Right Brain/Left Brain

Right Brain/Left Brain ModernToys opened in 1985 selling rare Japanese toys. Over time the company has evolved to offer the best in all kinds of rock n' roll collectibles.

In 1985 we began importing Japanese toys that were intended only for the Japanese market. This included anime figures that rarely landed here. Over time, ModernToys evolved into Right Brain/Left Brain, which offered an eclectic mix of Japanese toys and other rare objects for collectors, anime aficionados, folk art collectors and more. For the past 16 years, Right Brain/Left Brain has evolved to be

come one of the premier rock n' roll memorabilia sellers in the world. Whatever we put our brains to, we are the best at it.

I, like millions of teenagers, discovered a new world of music in 1964 when the Beatles performed on Ed Sullivan. That started a leap in musical evolution for me. I was buying records from my local record shop in Lubbock, Texas. Speedy Perez was my mentor as I haunted the shop regularly. It was 1966 and he asked me if I had heard any blues music. I had no idea what it was. He sold me a copy of B.B. King's "Live at the Regal". I took it home, put it on the record player, which was hooked up to my guitar amp, and discovered an emotional side of myself that I had not really paid attention to. This was music that really moved me in a way pop music did not.

B.B. "Blues Boy" King died last night at the ripe age of 89. His was a great story from sharecropper to Blues legend. I can see online how many people's lives he touched.

We've been re-listening to David Byrne's & Brian Eno's superlative 2008 collaboration "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today". In particular the ultra-modern gospel-esque "My Big Nurse".
