K9 traffic stop results in significant narcotics seizure. ❄️ 🐕

Per WCSO:

Over the weekend, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of I-80 and Mogul Road.

Following an on-scene investigation, deputies arrested a passenger of the vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Jagger McKim, on multiple drug-related charges after locating a large quantity of methamphetamine in the vehicle.

McKim was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked on multiple felony charges, including:

▪Possession with Intent to Sell a Controlled Substance (3 counts)
▪Sell/Transport of a Controlled Substance (3 counts)
▪Trafficking a Controlled Substance (100–400 grams)
▪Trafficking a Controlled Substance (400+ grams)
▪Possession of a Controlled Substance (less than 14 grams)

In total, deputies seized 15 pounds of methamphetamine, 143 grams of co***ne, and eight bottles of promethazine hydrochloride during the investigation.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to disrupting the distribution of illegal narcotics through proactive enforcement efforts that help keep dangerous drugs out of our communities.

Firefighters Stop Fire Before It Reaches Property

Per Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District:

About 5:30 PM this evening, Fire Crews responded to a report of a fire in Cold Springs with multiple structures on fire in the area of Hummingbird Drive and Mockingbird Drive. TMFR Firefighters supported by Reno Fire were able to stop the fire which spread to three different properties. Several cars, multiple RVs, three sheds, and one detached garage were all impacted by the incident. There were no injuries or individuals displaced as a result. The cause is under investigation.

3 Arrests Made During DUI Checkpoint

Per Nevada State Police:

🚔 On Saturday, July 18, the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division and the Elko Police Department partnered for a DUI checkpoint on Lamoille Highway.

Approximately 600 southbound vehicles traveled through the checkpoint on Lamoille Highway and an additional 139 vehicles were screened in the parking lot of the Elko Veterinary Clinic. Of those 139 vehicles, Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered on 8 drivers with 3 being arrested for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Thank you to the Elko Police Department, Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Elko County Sheriff’s Office, Elko County Emergency Management, Elko County Ambulance, and the Elko Veterinary Clinic for their partnership in helping keep our roads and communities safe.

We also thank everyone who planned ahead and made the responsible choice to use a designated sober driver. Your decisions help make Nevada’s roads safer for everyone.

Traffic Stop Turns To Arrest

“Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies seized narcotics and an illegally possessed firearm following a traffic stop conducted early this morning.

The vehicle, occupied by three individuals, was stopped near Sun Valley Boulevard and 2nd Avenue. During the traffic stop, a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 was deployed and provided a positive alert to the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, 30-year-old Jose Caro-Torres was arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance (co***ne) and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Caro-Torres also had an outstanding warrant for failing to comply.

He was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the listed charges.

Through proactive enforcement and the support of our K9 teams, deputies continue to identify criminal activity, reduce crime, and enhance public safety throughout Washoe County.”

Wanted Cat K*ller Captured 🐈 👮🏻‍♂️

Reno PD arrested a man Thursday who was wanted on outstanding warrants, including a felony warrant related to an animal cruelty investigation conducted by Washoe County Animal Control.

On July 17, 2026, officers were contacted by Washoe County Animal Control (WCAC) regarding an individual under investigation for alleged animal cruelty. According to investigators, the suspect was accused of adopting kittens and later recording videos depicting the animals being killed. The suspect was also recently arrested by the San Francisco Police Department in connection with this ongoing investigation before returning to the Reno area.

On July 23, 2026, Police received information from neighbors that a man
matching the suspect’s description had returned to his residence. Officers quickly
responded and established a perimeter around the home. After speaking with neighbors and the property’s landlord, officers confirmed the suspect was the sole occupant listed on the lease. Witnesses reported seeing him enter the residence but did not observe
him leave before officers arrived.

Officers made repeated announcements over a loudspeaker and attempted to contact the suspect by phone without success. Believing the suspect remained inside, officers. entered the residence. With assistance from the Reno Police Department’s MobileEngagement Team and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the suspect was located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident.

Charges:
• Felony warrant for animal cruelty
• Two misdemeanor warrants

The investigation into the alleged animal cruelty remains active and is being led by
Washoe County Animal Control. Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact Washoe County Animal Services.
