Working Out with a Word
Day 31 – We Will Not Always See It

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

God calls us to believe Him—not just when everything looks good, but especially when it doesn’t. Faith means trusting His Word even when what we see or feel tells us otherwise.

Hebrews 11:6 reminds us: “But without faith it is impossible to please Him…”

We are called to live by faith, not just talk about it. So here’s the question:
When are you going to start?

Working Out with a Word
Day 30 – Learning to Trust

Proverbs 3:5 (NKJV)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;

I’ve been in ministry for over 30 years, and I’m still learning to trust in the Lord. You would think that after all this time it would come naturally—but truth be told, I still find myself leaning on my own understanding from time to time. It’s humbling.

Trusting God is not a one-time decision; it’s a daily discipline. Life will constantly present us with opportunities to either rely on what we see, know, or feel—or to lean fully into God’s promises and character.

If you had to rate your trust in the Lord on a scale from 1 to 10, where would you land today?

Day 29: The Joy Set Before You

Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

How do we overcome hardship?
By fixing our eyes on Jesus—the one who endured the most agonizing and humiliating death of His time. Words can’t truly capture the depth of His suffering, and no example we give could ever compare to what He bore for us. But what gave Him strength to endure? The joy that was set before Him.

Think about it like this:
When we’re working out, our goal is to build strength. But growth comes through resistance. We push through the pain, knowing the results are worth it.

Consider a father who works tirelessly for three years, saving every penny to take his family of six on a much-needed vacation. He endures long hours and sacrifice—not for the moment, but for the joy set before him.

Or someone who’s been living with chronic back pain for years, believing that healing will one day come. They continue to serve, to smile, to move forward, trusting that the pain won’t last forever. That’s what it looks like to hold on to the joy that’s coming.

Sometimes, the weight of life gets heavy. But remember—joy is ahead. Keep serving. Keep sacrificing. Keep pressing. Jesus endured the cross because He saw what was beyond it. And so can you.

Reflection Question:
Where do you find your inspiration to overcome?
What is the joy that’s set before you?

Day 28: Following the Leader

1 Peter 2:21 (NKJV)
“For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.”

I grew up playing Follow the Leader on my bicycle. There were times when we’d jump a ditch or try something wild—something only the leader had the nerve to do. And I would do it, just because I was following him.

Christ calls us to follow Him too—but not just when it’s easy or when it feels good. He asks us to follow Him even into suffering. In fact, the Bible says we were called to this.

I thank God for pastors, apostles, prophets, bishops, and all those who lead in the faith. But at the end of the day, it’s Christ we are called to follow—and that includes following Him through the hard times, through pain, and even through suffering.

When was the last time you truly suffered for Christ?

Day 27: Getting Ready to Reap

Galatians 6:7-9 (NKJV)
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

The Bible tells us very clearly that we will reap the things that we sow. It’s a spiritual law—unchanging, undeniable, and often overlooked in our daily routines. Just like in fitness, there are no shortcuts in the Spirit.

Of course, I would love to have more muscles overnight. I would love to wake up tomorrow and see the results of a body I’ve only dreamed about. But we know that’s not how growth works—physically or spiritually. What we have today is often the result of seeds sown weeks, months, or even years ago.

If you want a better harvest, you must plant better seeds. You can’t expect transformation while feeding the same unhealthy habits—whether in body, mind, or spirit. You must sow in the direction you want to grow.

So here’s the challenge:
What are you sowing today that your future self will thank you for?
What would your life look like five years from now if you stayed consistent, didn’t grow weary, and kept sowing good seed?

The harvest is coming. Don’t give up before it gets here. Stay the course, stay in faith, and keep sowing.

Let today’s workout be your worship. Let every rep be a seed sown toward the life God is building in you.

Working Out with a Word
Day 26: Don’t Panic

Walking by the Lake

Isaiah 41:10 (MSG)
Don’t panic. I’m with you.
There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.
I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you.
I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.

When I plan something for church or work and it seems like it’s not going to work out, I panic. I remember working with a guy to pull off a major event in the prison. The morning of the event, everything that could go wrong started going wrong. And then—it happened. I panicked.

But the guy looked at me calmly and said, “Glover, God’s got this.”

To my amazement, the very things that were working against us started working for us. The event turned out to be incredible. Everyone was excited and impacted. But me? I was so caught up in what could’ve gone wrong that I almost forgot the fact that God had it all along.

So I’ve learned this: Don’t panic. God’s got this.

Question of the Day:
What’s that one thing that always causes you to panic?

Day 25: Examination Time
Working Out at Home

2 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV)
“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”

For those who know me from seminary or even back in high school, you know I never liked taking tests. Some people are just not great test takers, and I was definitely one of them. There were certain math concepts I struggled with—and honestly, some of them I’ve never had to use since.

But in life, whether you like it or not, you will be tested. And these tests won’t always come with a study guide or a scheduled date. Sometimes, they show up unannounced—through trials, temptations, delays, disappointments, or even blessings. And it’s in those moments that your faith gets measured. That’s when you find out whether you’ve grown—or if you’re still stuck in the same place spiritually.

There are areas in our faith journey where we should have matured by now. If you’ve been walking with God or attending church for a significant amount of time, there are some things you should have learned to overcome.

So the question is:
Are you growing in your faith—or just maintaining where you are?
Can you honestly say that you’ve grown in faith? Or are you still circling the same mountain, fighting the same battles, holding onto the same habits?

Today, take time to examine yourself. Test your faith. Growth isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. Let’s not settle for just showing up; let’s aim to grow up.
