The Soldier’s Monument was officially dedicated on June 20, 1900, during a large community celebration attended by about 2,000 people. The event included a parade, speeches, and a special luncheon, along with 2,000 quarts of ice cream donated by Eugene Cory of the Sparta Creamery.

The 12-foot statue was purchased by James B. Titman and given as a gift to the town. It was placed on the grounds of the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, where it became an important local landmark.

🦅 A remarkable rescue in Sparta.

On July 30, Sparta Police responded to a report of an injured bald eagle near West Shore Trail. Officer Kyle Stoll located the eagle and contacted Animal Control Officer Don Critchlaw, who safely secured the bird and transported it to The Raptor Trust for evaluation and treatment.

While the exact cause of the injury is unknown, it is believed the eagle may have collided with an electrical wire and injured its wing. The eagle remains in the care of The Raptor Trust as it continues to recover, with hopes that it can eventually be released back into the wild. ❤️

A special thank you to the concerned citizen who reported the eagle, Officer Stoll, Animal Control Officer Critchlaw, and everyone involved in giving this beautiful bird a chance to heal.
