Selectmen address EMS agreements, Rescue Squad transitions

An intercept agreement, as explained by Fire Chief Robert Parsons, allows Spencer to bill a neighboring town a base fee of $300 for advanced life support (ALS) services. The advantage to this arrangement, he said, is that the other towns like Paxton, the Brookfields, Charlton and Leicester, would then “send us a check right away,” and then they would bill insurance companies for the basic life support portion of services....

The Honor of Reporting for The Spencer Journal this Summer

SPENCER - To my fellow Spencer residents, I am honored to write for The Spencer Journal this summer and work alongside excellent people to inform the public. Local news is both an incredibly important and underestimated form of sharing information with the community. A fact sheet from Pew Research Center reveals only 21% of Americans reported reading local news closely in 2025, a drop from 37% in 2016....

Letter to the editor: Override

To the Editor, Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen a lot of discussion about the upcoming school budget override in Spencer. Much of it comes from real frustration, especially around taxes and the feeling that it’s always something new. That’s fair. But I also think some of the key facts are getting lost in the noise: The proposed $264,456 override for the FY27 school budget isn’t about adding new programs or anything flashy....
