The Lions Club of Chili recently hosted its last environmental event of the Lions season with guest speaker, Master Gardener John from the Cornell Cooperative Extension. He spoke about the annual decline in monarch butterfly populations due to global warming, pollution, and fewer native plants for them to thrive on. He also made recommendations on how we as humans can help the population grow. In April, Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf presented Jazzercise Brockport with a certificate in recognition of its efforts fighting food insecurity in the area. Jazzercise Brockport held a food drive and collected 422 pounds of food, which the Food Shelf says has been instrumental in supporting its mission and the Brockport community.

Herbs are interesting and beautiful plants, and comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is no exception. This hardy perennial is a member of the borage family. It has 12 to 18-inch-long leaves, which are somewhat hairy and can reach a height of over two feet and a spread of more than three feet. It is a medicinal herb used to treat and help heal bruises topically.
