For us, fall is 🚜 🌽🌊waterway season.
Pattern gets all of the love, but efficient surface is the most cost-effective way to fix most yield robbing drainage issues.
The data comes to us in one of two ways -->
1. Topo with a rover --> Best for a single waterway or small field area.
2. Drone flight --> Best for multiple waterways in a field or analysis of whole field drainage.
For either option always include the following data -->
- A topo shot at the outlet for each waterway. This could be the lowest elevation the water can exit the field or the culvert the water must flow into.
- Topo shots in the flowline for each waterway (more if using the rover topo method).
- A simple cross section of your preferred waterway design(s).
With the data above, we can quickly design the waterway(s) and hand you a machine control model to load right into your .
Think that sounds like too much work before you even get the dozer to the site?
Figure out how much downtime you have in the multiple laser set-ups necessary for this type of work.
Here is the cost equation -->
YOUR time + a very expensive dozer idling * every time you figure out a design or adjust the laser = 💲💲💲 ⏱ ⏱ ⏱
Some of our clients topo multiple fields then rent a GPS dozer for a couple weeks to knock out the work. The dozer is either cutting waterways or in transport between fields. Almost zero downtime. NONE of these guys go back to their old methods.
Believe it or not, those rentals tend to be dozers. But trust me, , and .na dozers work just fine, too. 😉
Photo below is the contour map derived from the drone flight that just came in. Keep an eye on this post and I'll show our work as it progresses.
