🎉 Happy 3-Year Work Anniversary, Mak! 🎉
Today we’re celebrating Makayla “Mak” Secrist and her 3 years with us! Here’s some fun facts that make her such a joy to have on the team!
🎤 Go-to karaoke song: “All Star” by Smash Mouth — one of the few songs I know all the words to. The rest I fumble over so bad, even with the lyrics right in front of me 😂
✈️ Dream vacation spot: New Zealand! I want to see where they made the Shire in Lord of the Rings.
📺 Favorite TV show: That’s hard… I haven’t watched actual TV in a while. Maybe Adventure Time or Gravity Falls.
🎙️ How did you get into radio: I went to school to learn more about media and broadcasting to help me with YouTube of all things lol. I fell in love with the creative process and wanted to really dig into it. Iowa Lakes had everything I wanted to learn in their broadcasting program!
🎧 What was your first job in broadcasting: While I was at school, I started as a board operator here at Community First Broadcasting and did that for about 3 years before becoming a host—and here I am now! I love this job and the people here!
✨ Fun fact most listeners wouldn’t guess: I watched every episode of My Little Pony with my kids and got into it more than they did—Favorite character: Twilight Sparkle
🏖️ Mountains or beach: Beach! LOVE the ocean. I would live underwater in a big bubble if I could.
📚 Books or movies: Books! But it really depends on the movie.
🌙 Early bird or night owl: Night owl. I hardly ever sleep properly at night lol.
🍽️ Favorite local restaurant?: Still thinking on this one 😂 If there’s a local Greek or Indian place—tell me!
🎶 One song you’ll never skip: Depends on the mood! I like pretty much all music, lean toward hard rock, and I’m proudly poly-JAM-erous.
🎙️ Biggest on-air blooper: Early on, I once read “Exit Realty” as “Exit Reality” right in front of JJ while he was training me. He just laughed—and I survived 😅
