I’ve always loved caterpillars. There’s just something about them—those little inching bodies, their bright colors, and the way they turn into something completely different with time. I’ve especially had a soft spot for The Very Hungry Caterpillar since I was little, so it felt only right that he’d show up in my crochet world eventually.
Lately, I’ve been seeing those cool fidget toys made from 3D-printed plastic cups—you know, the ones that bend and click as you play with them? I love the concept, but I wanted to try putting my own handmade spin on it. So I challenged myself to create a crocheted version—something soft, colorful, and fun to fidget with, without using any plastic.
And here he is: my very own Hungry Caterpillar fidget toy! He’s full of color, squishy segments, and a bit of nostalgia. He’s not for young kiddos due to the small parts, but he’s perfect for fidgeting hands, desks, or even just sitting cute on a shelf. I had so much fun making him and can’t wait to create a few more.
If you love handmade toys, sensory tools, or just have a soft spot for childhood favorites—he might just crawl his way into your heart 💚
