We wanted to take a minute to highlight a Waxwing Books reader favorite!

A Little More Beautiful: The Story of a Garden is the very first book that Waxwing Books published, and it holds a special place in our hearts. Written by Sarah Mackenzie and illustrated by Breezy Brookshire, this delightful spring picture book follows Lou Alice, who is sly as a fox and swift as a bird who does her part to make her small town a little more beautiful. When Lou Alice has to move away, no one notices that she's gone. No one, except a little girl, who is determined to carry on Lou Alice's work and make the world a little more beautiful than she found it.

Did you know Lou Alice is inspired by a famous children's author (who also happens to be one of Sarah's friends)? Who do you think it is? Let us know in the comments!

And if you want to add this book to your home library, head to https://shop.readaloudrevival.com/products/a-little-more-beautiful to grab your copy now!

Some stories are too important to be forgotten.

During the Great Depression, families living deep in the Appalachian mountains had little access to books. But a group of determined women changed that.

They rode horses and mules over steep mountain trails, carrying saddlebags full of stories to readers who were waiting eagerly for them.

They were known as Packhorse Librarians.

Books Up the Mountain tells their story with words by Caroline Starr Rose and stunning illustrations by Gabrielle Grimard. From blizzards to steep mountain paths, nothing kept the Book Women from bringing stories to eager readers—young and old.
