Good morning from Dave and Shauna! Today is National Radio Day, a day when radio broadcasters from across the country get to celebrate what we are blessed to do every day! We are so grateful to God to get to do what we do every morning and so very grateful that you would tune in and share some of your morning with us on Shine 1049! Can’t wait to be with you again tomorrow morning.

Wednesdays in the Word 🌟

And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness. - James 3:18

James is contrasting two kinds of wisdom: human wisdom, which is driven by selfish ambition and bitter jealousy, and heavenly wisdom, which is pure, peace-loving, and full of mercy.

James uses agricultural language; planting seeds and reaping a harvest. Peace doesn't appear overnight. It requires labor, patience, and planting the right seeds (words of comfort, acts of service, steady leadership). The harvest is righteousness; a community restored to wholeness, harmony, and restored relationships with one another and with God.

In high-stress seasons, it is easy for communities to splinter into blame, panic, or self-preservation. James 3:18 calls leaders and neighbors to be intentional peacemakers. Trust the process. Every small act of kindness, every shared resource, and every comforting word is a seed planted that will yield a harvest of resilience and hope.

Testimony Tuesday✨

Rabbi Yisroel Hahn has spent the past two decades helping Jewish community members in Spokane. Yet now, he's focused on helping everyone he possibly can.

“It doesn’t matter if they’re Jewish or not,” he said. “I just want to help you. I just want to be there for you.”

An online emergency wildfire relief campaign he's launched has raised about $17,000 with a goal of $25,000. “100% of funds designated for wildfire relief will go toward helping those affected by the fires and supporting relief efforts,” the campaign states. “In moments like these, there are no strangers. We are one Spokane community," said Hahn.

Be encouraged by this testimony that helping others and being there for each other is what loving your neighbor looks like.

A reason to rejoice this morning. With all of the terrorism and kidnappings around the world, today there is a God-ordained ending to what could have been a tragedy. Many of us around the world have been praying for faithful missionary Kevin Rideout who had not been heard from for months. Read about his ordeal, and reunion with his family this week, (below). :)

Motivational Monday✨

If you’ve ever worked outside under the beating sun, you know the feeling of pure, unfiltered thirst. Your throat gets dry, your energy drops, and suddenly, nothing else in the world matters except finding a glass of water. In our daily lives, our souls experience a very similar kind of dehydration. We feel the dry, restless ache inside, but instead of drinking what actually satisfies, we try to quench it with productivity, endless scrolling, shopping, or chasing the next goal. We end up full of activity, but completely parched on the inside.

As the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, my God.
-Psalm 42:1

The image here is raw and desperate. A deer hunting for water isn't casual; it’s running for its life in a dry landscape. We often treat prayer and spiritual reflection like extra credit, something we get around to if we have spare time on our schedules. But you weren't designed to run on the dry fumes of daily hustle. It was designed to be regularly refreshed by the living water of the Creator.

This week, pause, take a breath, and take a moment to refresh your soul in God's presence.

Get Together 8.14.26

We spend so much of our lives pouring out for everyone else, fighting off the weight of the world, that we often forget to extend that same grace inward. Tonight at Minnehaha Park, we leaned heavily into what it truly means to live out Ephesians 4:32; to be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave us. But we also had to address a hard truth: you cannot pour from an empty cup. Before we can truly love our neighborhoods well, we have to learn how to be kind to ourselves. We all wake up hoping for a better day, waiting for that shift where hope rises and the struggle lightens. Under the trees tonight, surrounded by authentic worship and real community, that shift happened.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, brought their lawn chairs, and shared their night with us. Between the incredible music from Byrd of Agape and learning about the powerful global impact of the Maasai Development Project, it was a night that truly refilled our cups.
