I had a Leslie Knope style birthday, and it was everything I needed. I worked on upcoming projects, bought pumpkins at for my backyard display, put my name in the hat for an opportunity that I care about a great deal to make my community a better place, had waffles at a local diner ( knocked it out of the PARK), decorated for my very own “Harvest Festival” in the backyard, and spent time with the people that I love most. ♥️

Thank you for all of your sweet birthday wishes and texts! I’m truly overwhelmed. I have a fantastic community of friends out there, and I’m so lucky to be in each of your lives.

🙌 HANDS OFF THE NORTHWEST 🙌 We stand with Portland. 🙌 As Dwight D. Eisenhower once said – “In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence… The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”

🔥 If you know, you know! is one spot that has flawless ex*****on every time. It’s on our list of the best restaurants in Spokane for Trending Northwest Restaurant Month for the second year in a row (thanks to sponsors !).

Chef and owner Jon Green took a leap of faith opening his restaurant during the “doomed” year of 2020 — and Spokane is so glad he did. That gamble paid off in spades: Wooden City quickly became a community favorite and now regularly tops lists of the best restaurants in Spokane, Washington.

From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re greeted by the glow of a blue-tiled, wood-fired oven, turning out neo-Neapolitan pizzas that smell like pure comfort. The space itself feels vibrant yet inviting, whether you’re perched at the bar, tucked into a cozy booth, or relaxing on the mezzanine. Combine that with some of the most exceptional service in the city, and you’ve got a surefire spot for a memorable meal.

The menu reads like a love letter to American classics — but with an upscale twist. Think croutons fried to order on the Caesar salad, one of Spokane’s best burgers (with a house-made veggie patty option that’s just as crave-worthy), and Hungarian peppers so popular they often sell out. Green’s attention to detail is everywhere: house-made pizza and pasta doughs, seasonal updates, and a service team that treats every guest like a regular.

What to order:

Salmon Toast – Beet relish, egg mousse, pickled red onion, whipped crème fraîche, and fresh dill.

Beet Ravioli – Goat cheese, chive cream, fresh basil, endive, lemon & caper butter sauce.

Blistered Hungarian Peppers – Sweet sausage, aged cheddar, chive oil, and toasted ciabatta.

Tell them I sent you when you go — and definitely save room for a pizza from that gorgeous oven. 🍕✨ AD

You haven’t really lived until you’ve had a meal at ! This beloved spot is one of my top go-tos in town for a meal on the go, and it’s conveniently located in the same spot I was engaged. 🥹 They’re proudly featured as one of the best restaurants in Spokane for Trending Northwest Restaurant Month presented by , and every bite reminds me exactly why I keep coming back.

Skewers brings authentic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors right to the heart of Spokane. You’ll find an inviting space that feels both casual and warm — perfect for a quick lunch, dinner with friends, or a laid-back date night. From the aroma of spices wafting from the kitchen to the friendly service, every detail makes you feel like family.

What to order:

Lamb Kebab – Juicy, marinated lamb grilled to perfection on skewers. Served with fragrant rice pilaf, toasted nuts, roasted vegetables, onion slaw, warm pita, and a luscious house sauce.

Chicken Shawarma – Tender marinated chicken cooked on a traditional upright rotisserie and shaved to order. Wrapped in soft Armenian lavash with fries, lettuce, tomato, toum (garlic sauce), and taratour (sesame sauce). It’s the most iconic Lebanese sandwich — and Skewers does it right.

Lahmajun – A classic Armenian favorite often called “Armenian pizza.” This slightly spicy ground lamb flatbread comes with cool cucumber-mint jajukh sauce and a squeeze of fresh lemon to brighten every bite.

Tell them I said hello when you visit! 🥙✨ AD

☢️ Eighty years ago, the winds carried radioactive waste. Today, they carry wildfire smoke. On Saturday, September 20 from 3–4:30 p.m., the Spokane Public Library’s Central Library becomes the stage for Hanford’s Leaks, Legends, and Legacies—a raw, unflinching conversation about radioactive pollution, community health, and the battles that still linger long after the Hanford Nuclear Site’s wartime beginnings.

This powerhouse panel features Trisha Pritikin, a Hanford “downwinder” and author of Then Came the Summer Snow; Kay-Smith Blum, award-winning novelist of Tangles; James Patrick Thomas, author of Atomic Pilgrim; and legendary journalist Karen Dorn Steele, who exposed Hanford’s secrets in the 1980s. Guiding the discussion is EWU History Professor Dr. Ann Le Bar, who reminds us that Washingtonians must reckon with Hanford’s legacy as nuclear energy moves into the future.

Alongside the talk, visitors can explore a month-long archival exhibit on Hanford, with book sales supported by Auntie’s Bookstore and Latah Books. As library adult services manager Vanessa Strange says, events like this embody the library’s role as a hub for informed dialogue and community empowerment. And yes—it’s free and open to the public!

Follow the Spokane Public Library for more information about events like this, and don't forget that they are sooooo much more than a place to borrow books. It's a living library with items you can borrow, a place for kids to play, events to connect, a place to get work done on the computer, too!

🥹 It’s been two beautiful bonus years with my dad since his “widowmaker” heart attack, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all of the memories we’ve made. For those of you who are lucky enough to know him, you know how important he is to all of us and how devastated we were when we nearly lost him. It was a close one - and truly a miracle of God’s grace via modern medicine that we get continue dad jokes and abundant unconditional love that he is famous for.

Thank you endlessly to my mom for noticing his struggle and quickly calling 911, and to my brother Sean for providing life-saving measures until help arrived, Kootenai County Fire & Rescue and Post Falls Police Department for advanced measures to get him to the hospital, and for giving him the absolute best of care and a second chance at life.

Give 20 second hugs every time to the people you love - you never know when their number is called. Life is precious! 🙏🏼
