Whether you wish you had a better sofa, or you have the sofa of your dreams, there are many ways to make your sofa look more elevated. There are a few different components that go into helping your sofa look more curated, cozy and high end.
Area Rug Size & Placement 🤎
Both the size and placement of an area rug under a sofa are important for maintaining a high-end, styled look. Too large or too small of a rug under a sofa can make a room feel unbalanced.
Throw Pillows 🤎
Throw blankets and pillows can enhance the overall vibe of your sofa. Additionally, they are a great way to incorporate pattern and texture into your space.
Side Table 🤎
Typically the rule of thumb for a side table next to your sofa is one that is just slightly shorter in height than the arm of the sofa. Add a lamp, sculptural object, vase or plant!
Art & Lighting 🤎
To maintain scale around your sofa, it’s important to select large enough art and also the right height of lamp (if it will be sitting directly next to the sofa).
You could of course put a table lamp on your side table next to the sofa (pro tip- select a lamp that is at least 1/3 the width of the side table). If you only have a side table on one side of the sofa, the other side of the sofa could have a floor lamp instead. Additionally, wall sconces can be placed on either side of art above the sofa or even above an art piece to illuminate it.
Throw Blanket 🤎
For a more modern look, I prefer to place my throw blankets in a blanket basket next to or adjacent the sofa, but here are 3 more ways to style your throw!
1. Fold blanket into thirds lengthwise and drape it straight form the back down the front of the sofa. Be sure to execute this drape off to one side or another, not centered.
2. Toss your blanket at an angle from the top corner of one sofa side in a perfectly imperfect fashion until it looks inviting.
3. Sectionals have an addition option. You can neatly or casually fold the throw blanket over the foot area of the sectional.
