Have you ever wanted to know what colors suit you best? I personally struggle with shopping for clothes because I find myself buying items online or skipping trying them on at the store, and ultimately feeling like “this is not my color”!

Just as with interiors, optimizing color palettes for clothes and accessories can be a little bit complex.
I work with color palettes all the time, but after having my color analysis done by The Color Key, I’ve realized designing for a person is much different than designing in a space. In a space, when less optimal colors are utilized, the room can look off, but with a person, it can affect things like whether you look tired or rested, or even visually enhance or calm down facial redness.

This color analysis experience has been so eye opening. I’ve truly learned that selecting colors in my wardrobe, accessories and makeup isn’t necessarily about what’s pretty, it’s about what’s in harmony with me! This totally clicks for me, because as an interior stylist, I’ve seen firsthand how good design isn’t just about what looks beautiful, it’s about what belongs in the space.

Bed skirt who?

With a cozy modern cottage vibe in, people are wanting to bring a lot of texture, warmth and charm into their bedrooms. I’ve been seeing so many beautiful designer furniture pieces lately that feature ruffles along the bottom. The most affordable, easy and quick way to bring in that cozy feel is a bed skirt! 🧺

The Modern Way

I’m not talking about grandmas bed skirts. There’s a way to do this in a very “cool” and intentional way! I think it’s super important to balance the harsh lines of a modern space with textiles that soften the room. 🪞

Decrease Visual Clutter

The most obvious way bedskirts can decrease clutter is by concealing under-bed storage! Another aspect that I’ve talked about before is how many legs are in a room so let’s say for example you have two night stands with four legs, each dresser with four legs a bunch at the end of the bed with four legs… That’s a lot of legs. In this case, a bed skirt would really help a room, feel grounded without adding four more legs for the eyes to digest. 📦

Polished Look for Less

Another major benefit is how expensive it can make your room look when in reality you just have a cheap metal bedframe. You can even swap them out seasonally to elevate your seasonal decor palette. 💸

Not sure how to style your coffee table? Start by understanding its shape!

Circular, square, rectangular, or organic, each one needs a slightly different approach to balance proportions, create flow, and avoid clutter. Also, each the approach for shape is also dependent on its size!

A few extra pro tips!

My absolute favorite elements to layer in are:
books
candles
trays
bowls
plants
sculptural objects
trinket boxes
vases
candle accessories (like wick trimmers and matches)

Be sure to vary height, texture, shapes and sizes in your groupings for visual interest!

Last but not least, don’t forget functionality! You can display beautiful coasters (like marble or travertine ones) or hide them in a trinket box along with your remotes!

Sight lines are also an important functionality key, make sure the decor pieces aren’t so tall that they block conversational space or tv viewing.

And as always, you always have creative liberty to make your own space unique! These are not hard and fast rules, simply tips to help guide you in creating a space you love!
