It is impossible to overlook the changes to our seasons in recent years - heat, smoke, and otherwise - and we are grateful for the Gonzaga Climate Institute team for their important community impact work. Elena Shadid (she/her) is a junior at Gonzaga University where she is studying Digital Media Production. She’s passionate about creating nonfiction media that promotes positivity and also enjoys making videos for her friends and family. Originally from Los Angeles and Denver, she loves exploring the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest whether it’s backpacking, hiking, or doing nature photography.

We're huge fans of Dante Jester over at Rogue Heart!!

While working with the Gonzaga Climate Institute, we got to document their office and walls featuring original art (including a painting inspired by the apple orchard they grew up on🌳).

Dante and their team have been hard at work creating the Spokane Extreme Heat Resilience Plan. The plan is a community collaboration, and is now available to read! The plan emphasizes that everyone has an important role to play, including becoming more aware of the dangers of extreme heat.

Earth Day is everyday!🌎💕

✨ Almost a year ago to the day, our City dedicated the placement for a beautiful new addition to Riverfront Spokane's Sister Cities Connections Garden - a sculptural bench by our beloved neighborhood artist Mallory Battista! She was commissioned by Spokane-Jilin City Sister Cities Society and sponsored in part by the Spokane Chinese Association, to combine her love for stained glass and blacksmithing to depict Jilin City's famous frost-covered trees and two entwined Chinese dragons. 🐉💙

The sculptural bench, called “Dragons and Rime”, was created by Mallory over the past year and a half, and is made of forged steel and features two mosaics made from stained glass, fused glass, semi precious stones, and river stones from the Songhua River in Jilin City. 😍 Every detail was meaningful & lovingly assembled, with blessings & wishes from community members sealed inside. AMAZING!

'Tis the season for w**d foraging!! 🌿🤩

We love working with the Water Wise Spokane team all year long - especially when we can join for a workshop, led by the legend herself, Juan Juan Moses.

The Rogue Heart team have been loving Shepherd's Purse, common mallow (Malva Neglecta), and Purslane from our backyards (always making sure they haven't been sprayed). 😉

And remember, "If you can't beat them, eat them!!!" 🥗

You've heard that April showers bring May flowers, but did you know that April fundraisers ALSO bring May flowers - and EWI of Spokane Scholarships, too? 😉🌼

What a treat for our team - proud EWI members since 2012 - to enjoy cheerful flower baskets AND bolster EWI of Spokane's impressive scholarship programs, which distribute four annual scholarships to local HS juniors, and one annual ASIST award - which stands for "Adult in Scholastic Transition," usually a parent, returning to school for further education. 💪🎓

It was a bright spot to be in community yesterday with so many compassionate hearts, turning out to support our local nonprofit changemakers through Women Helping Women Fund! We had the joy of collaborating with the team at Averson Creative to make sure video needs were covered this year, and were thrilled to celebrate all the scholars and grant recipients - including our beloved Manzanita House and College Success Foundation! 💜🧡💛
