š„šThe Dragon in the Fire šš„
Some say dragons guard treasure.
Others say they guard knowledge.
But perhaps they have always guarded something far more beautiful.
Transformation.
When I first looked at this photograph, I thought I saw a dragon emerging from the fire.
Then I wondered if it was simply light finding its own path.
Now I believe beauty asks us to stop searching for certainty and begin paying attention instead.
Fire has always been an artist.
It does not preserve.
It transforms.
Wood becomes warmth.
Ash becomes fertile soil.
Light becomes memory.
Perhaps beauty has always worked this way.
It is not found in holding tightly to what was.
It is found in quietly nourishing what could become.
Every family inherits a flame.
Within it are stories, talents, questions, discoveries, and ways of seeing the world. Alongside them are patterns that once seemed necessary, beliefs that outlived their purpose, and wounds that ask not to be repeated, but understood.
Inheritance is never simply something to preserve.
It is something to tend.
Like a home.
Like a garden.
Like the earth beneath our feet.
Beauty does not ask us to keep every seed we are given.
It asks us to notice which ones bear good fruit.
Light has a remarkable way of revealing what has always been there, waiting patiently to be seen.
Looking back now, I wonder if wisdom works the same way.
Perhaps wisdom is not the accumulation of knowledge.
Perhaps it is learning how to carry knowledge beautifully.
Not as something to possess.
Not as something to guard.
But as something that grows brighter each time it is shared with care.
This, to me, is the quiet work of alchemy.
Not turning lead into gold.
But transforming inheritance into stewardship.
Receiving what is life-giving.
Releasing what is not.
Leaving the next generation with more light than shadow.
Perhaps that is why the dragon feels so fitting.
Not because it rises from the flames.
But because it reminds us that every fire offers the same invitation.
To consume.
Or to illuminate.
To repeat.
Or to transform.
When I look at this photograph today, I no longer ask whether the dragon is real.
I ask whether I have learned to see beauty the way light does.
Patiently.
Always revealing what is ready to grow.
Because beauty has never been perfection.
Beauty is quiet awareness.
It is observing with intention.
It is nourishing with care.
It is choosing, generation after generation, to cultivate a home, a body, an earth, and a life that leave more light for those who follow.
So perhaps this photograph is not about a dragon after all.
Perhaps it is simply about the moment light chose to remind us that the most beautiful legacies are not the ones we inherit unchanged...
They are the ones we have the courage to transform.
