Local citizens, Billie Reis and her juvenile daughter, requested North Wilkesboro Police Officers assistance in reuniting a World War II (WWII) burial flag with its rightful family. Billie discovered the flag at a yardsale and was able to track down the surviving family member, Shelia Mets, of Hickory, North Carolina. The flag originally honored Shelia’s grandfather, WWII veteran Wesley Wallice, who served in the United States Marine Corp. Billie requested a veteran present the flag to Shelia as a sign of respect. North Wilkesboro Police Investigator Greg Anderson, who was recently announced as the Police Officer of the quarter, is a veteran of the United States Army and served in Iraq during the Global War On Terror. Investigator Anderson met with Billie and Shelia at Talia’s on Main Street where the flag was respectfully returned to Shelia.
