Can you relate to this? Which side usually wins?
Have you ever walked into a store for one specific thing and walked out with four other items you didn't even need?
If yes, you know the struggle between the rational and emotional sides of the brain is REAL.
If you're like me, the rational side gets about two minutes of air time to convince you that you don't need a set of air pods, a new iPhone case, or the entire 8 seasons of Game of Thrones on DVD before the emotional side steps in and pummels that annoying sense of reason into submission.
The emotional brain is driven by the desire to feel good. The rational brain is driven by structure, logic, and reason.
Marketing speaks to the rational brain.
Stories speak to the emotional brain.
So why did you buy those other items you didn't need? Because you bought the story you told yourself about how good it would feel to own them.
Yes, I know. I'm a sucker for that story too!
