Big Thanks to the Arkansas Cinema Society for the Film Development Conference in Bentonville. During one session, Producer Sarah Green and Director Jeff Nichols addressed the nuts and bolts of indie film production. They, shared hard-won wisdom gained from years in the trenches. I can't quote verbatim but Nichols really nailed the reality of low-budget filmmaking when he said (and I'm paraphrasing), "When your film makes money that's when the legal troubles really start.."

Minari has already won accolades at Cannes and arrives in theaters this week. It's a charming, sweet drama based on the experiences of writer/ director Lee Isaac Chung, who grew up here in Northwest Arkansas. The film was co-produced by A24 and Brad Pitt's Plan B. The amazing cast includes Walking Dead star Steven Yeun, Yeri Han, South Korean veteran actress Yuh-jung Youn, and features an impressive debut of young Alan S. Kim, a genuine find. The fine cast is rounded out by Will Patton, who portrays an hilariously-eccentric friend of the family. Special Thanks to the Arkansas Cinema Society for allowing members an advanced look at the Minari, a warm, sometimes funny embrace from writer/director Lee Isaac Chung.
