Welcome to another runway from our archives: Once Upon a Dream. ✨

Conceptualized and directed by Deitra Mag Fashion Director LaComa Jefferson-Bass, this remains one of the most mesmerizing runway productions in our archive. More than a traditional fashion show, Once Upon a Dream unfolds like a piece of theater. The clothing, hair, makeup, styling and choreography work together to create an immersive world, while the models become characters on a stage.

LaComa approached each look with the care of casting a film or a play, building each character from the ground up through wardrobe, hair, makeup, movement and mood. By the time the models step onto the runway, they are inhabiting the story. They glide through the space with the grace of a ballet as princes, princesses, fairies, fairy godmothers and dark queens emerge from the dream.

It is a beautiful example of what can happen when fashion becomes storytelling. It is a beautiful example of what can happen when fashion becomes storytelling. Every model, stylist, makeup artist, fashion designer, hair stylist, lighting tech and crew member plays a part in bringing the vision to life, until the runway becomes its own little world.

Once Upon a Dream remains one of Deitra’s most beautiful and enchanting productions. 🥀✨

Another runway show from the Deitra archives. 🖤🌈

During Pride Week, Deitra took to the runway with a vision of a post-apocalyptic world where the old rules had disappeared and a fierce new tribe had inherited the earth.

Inspired by dystopian cinema and the raw aesthetic of Mad Max, our team created a world of distressed fashion, armor, weapons, sculptural hair, zip ties, shaved patterns, glitter and vivid rainbow face paint in tribute to Pride.

We’ve gone back into the archives and given the original footage a fresh edit, and we’re so excited to finally share it again.

For this runway presentation during Pride Week, Deitra Magazine ima...

One of Deitra’s most opulent runway shows is now on YouTube! 🖤

Inspired by the grandeur of the Baroque period and the Elizabethan age, the Deitra Awakening Runway Show explores the idea of transformation. Blending lavish floral headpieces, editorial hair and makeup, original fashion designs, handcrafted accessories, and curated garments from local boutiques, the collection reimagines the spring awakening that follows the death of winter. It is a celebration of renewal, feminine beauty, and strength through art.

NESTLED IN THE CHARMING SMALL TOWN of Leslie, Arkansas, just off of Highway 65, stands Skylark Cafe. What may seem like nothing more than another pit stop on a busy journey through the Ozarks is actually a quaint, family-style gem with a beautifully crafted menu and even more thoughtful dessert choices. You know you’re home and among friends when you see that bright turquoise exterior and step through the front door. We were honored to sit down with owner Joy Ellis to discuss her plans for the future, what it’s like running a business and family, and how to make the most of what we’re given.
