Great work by Moose Maine Kids

We are taking our new friend Wyatt hunting this year! Wyatt is an avid hunter and fisherman and his dream is to go Moose hunting! We decided that wasn't quite enough! Wyatt is going to go for his grand slam! We are going to chase turkeys, bear, moose and deer with Wyatt this year! And if we can find time, we are also going to go get Wyatt a Fallow Buck! Wyatt was having a hard time deciding between a moose and a fallow buck. We'd love to be able to do both!

Unfortunately, Wyatt is also fighting one of the rarest cancers known to man and there is currently no cure. Wyatt could use lots of prayers and for those of you who are able, his family could use some financial support to help cover expenses while they try to find a miracle for this kind and humble young man.

Most people think of bears as spending all of their time in thick cover near bogs and swamps. But hardwoods can off some great opportunities a evidenced by this new site. All of these bears visited in less than a two day stretch. They were there at all times of the day and there was a bear at the barrel more often than not over this time period.

Apply to the 2022 Antlerless Deer Permit Lottery today!

Beginning in 2022, a licensed hunter with an antlerless deer permit can harvest an antlerless deer in the designated district and an antlered deer statewide. Antlerless deer permits may be acquired through the lottery, and any remaining permits will be available for purchase on the MDIFW website.

Applications must be completed online by 11:59 pm (ET) on August 1, 2022. There is no fee to apply to the antlerless deer permit lottery.

You will be able to enter into the Maine Antlerless Deer Permit Lottery using this online service. From the list of lottery applicants, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will administer a chance drawing to select winners for a Maine Antlerless Deer Hunting Permit.

Information on new restrictions for hound hunting in Maine.

Civil Trespass with Hunting Dogs
The new Civil Trespass with Hunting Dogs law, effective August 8, 2022, applies to anyone who is using a dog to:

Hunt for bear, coyote, fox, bobcat, or racoon; or
Train for bear, fox, and raccoon
It does not apply to anyone who is using a dog to hunt snowshoe hare, waterfowl, ruffed grouse, woodcock, wild turkey, and other species of waterfowl or migratory birds.

Permit Requirement: Persons 16 years of age or older engaged in hunting bear, coyote, fox, bobcat or racoon OR who are training to hunt bear, fox or raccoon are required to have a Dog Training and Hunting Permit. Permits are available for purchase for $12 (plus agent fee) online at mefishwildlife.com or at a local license agent. Proceeds from this permit go to the Landowner Relations Fund.

Exception: A person who is training or hunting with a dog under the supervision of and in the presence of a registered Maine hunting guide who has a valid Dog Training and Hunting Permit is exempt from possessing the Dog Training and Hunting Permit.
Collar Requirements: Any dog engaged in hunting bear, coyote, fox, bobcat or raccoon or training to hunt bear, fox and raccoon are required to have a functioning tracking collar which allows the handler to track the dog’s location at all times. The collar must have the name, phone number, and address of the dog owner.

A person is in violation of civil trespass with a hunting dog if:

They turn a hunting dog loose onto posted property.
They turn a hunting dog loose onto property where the landowner has communicated to the dog handler that they do not want hunting dogs on their property.
A hunting dog enters property upon which a hunting dog has been previously found and a law enforcement officer has warned any handler of the hunting dog (within the past 365 days) that hunting dogs are not permitted on the property.
If a person is convicted or adjudicated of civil trespass with a hunting dog in violation of section 10657-A, that person is ineligible to obtain a dog training and hunting permit for at least one year.

These laws will be added to the 2022-2023 Hunting Law Book Summary by July 15, 2022.

The permit can be purchased online with other hunting licenses and permits.
