The "Free Frank Freedom Day" event at the Illinois State Museum on Sunday, Sept. 13, will feature free, family-friendly activities from noon to 2 p.m., including hands-on projects, art and discussion questions that share the story of Free Frank with younger audiences.

The event commemorates the freedom of Frank McWorter, entrepreneur, freedom seeker and founder of New Philadelphia in Pike County, the first town in the U.S. founded by an African American.

Nineteen balloons will return to Lincoln this weekend for the popular two-day Balloons Over 66 Weekend. The balloons will be a welcome sight, especially after event organizers canceled the event earlier this year.

The guidelines are needlessly complicated, repetitive and lacking substance. In a bit of self-parody, ISBE readily admitted to using AI to construct the 409-page word salad."

A group of middle school students from across Illinois recently spent five days in Springfield immersed in Abraham Lincoln’s five pillars of leadership as part of the LEAD: Spirit of Lincoln Youth Leadership Academy.

Learning from Lincoln scholars and reenactors, mentors and each other – and through visits to historic Lincoln sites – the students developed individual plans outlining how they could lead in their own schools and communities.

During the pandemic, many schools moved away from textbooks, worksheets and workbooks and toward using devices such as laptops and tablets. Around 88% of schools now provide every student with their own dedicated electronic device.
