Way to go APL! ALMOST 10K! very impressive!
It’s the last day of 4 Days of Hoorays: APL’s Race to Raise and today we are celebrating 9,599 spay and neuter procedures performed at the Animal Protective League in 2023 as well as hundreds of other lifesaving surgeries.
At APL, we work tirelessly to aid in ending companion animal overpopulation by providing low-cost spay/neuter procedures to pet owners of our community and by adopting out as many dogs and cats to loving homes every year.
There’s no better way to start 2024 than with a heartwarming story of how surgery saved the life of a kitten fighting for his life. Meet Sloane.
Sloane was found in a wood pile. Hypothermic, emaciated, dehydrated, starving, and suffering from a severe eye infection. Fearing the worst and wanting him to spend his possible final hours in a home, APL sent Sloane home with a foster caretaker who recalls, “We didn’t think he would last the night.”
But his caretaker kept a close eye on the frail kitten, keeping him warm and feeding him with a dropper when he refused to eat on his own. The eye infection did not respond to medication, threatening his recovery. Soon the eye was surgically removed by an APL veterinarian. No longer in pain, Sloane’s playful personality emerged.
And Sloane was no longer a foster kitten! His caregiver could not imagine giving up the spunky little guy, and made his temporary home a permanent one.
Sloane’s owner says “Sloane is now the king of the house and has two brother kitties that love him very much”.
