I'm conducting a quick survey for a future news article. If you are a service industry worker, I would very much appreciate your input. There are 5 questions, and I will need to know a name to use, and what your job is.
A selection of the responses may be included in the article, and would contain the name you provide and job description, as well as your answers.
If you prefer, for whatever reason, you are welcome to dm me rather than post publicly. No-one will be individually identified in the article, all replies would be considered confidential information, and this post will be taken down after I collect the needed data. Anonymous replies are acceptable.
I particularly need answers from food service workers, hair stylists/barbers, and delivery drivers, but insights from any service industry where tips are more or less standard are welcome.
Thank you in advance to anyone that takes time to respond.
The questions...
What is a name I can attach to your response?
What is your job? (There is no need to identify the company you work for unless you just want to. If you do, it may be included in the article.)
#1 What percentage of the people that you serve give you a tip?
#2 When they do tip, what is the average amount or percentage they tip?
#3 What amount or percentage would you consider an "appropriate" or "standard" tip?
#4 Are you paid below minimum wage, and/or are you forced to depend on tips to make enough money to make a living wage?
#5 Do you have to "tip share"? If so, with who?
Additional comments are welcomed, but not required.
Thank you for taking time to help me with this research!
Sincerely,
Jeff Ragsdale, Managing Editor
