At a press conference on Friday, May 16 at 10 a.m. local businessman and philanthropist Bob Bolduc joined with Springfield Public Schools to announce a full array of free arts programs for Springfield middle and high school students, hosted by the new Hope Center for the Arts. All programs are in collaboration with the Springfield Public Schools. The event took place at the nonprofit’s newly renovated performing arts facility at 150 Bridge Street, formerly known as CityStage.
Hope for Youth & Families, a non-profit founded by the former Pride owners, has transformed the former theatre into a stunning Center for the Arts for Springfield youth. This summer, the nonprofit also plans to provide free meals to children across the community.
In addition to launching this Center for the Arts, Hope for Youth also operates an innovative reading program that has garnered national attention for its success in improving youth literacy, and college assistance and family engagement programs.
The summer arts programs will host 500 Springfield middle and high school students from July 7 through August 1. It will offer a wide range of creative opportunities that include music, dance, song, acting, creative writing, painting and drawing, A/V & media arts technology, and photography.
Applications for Springfield middle and high school students are available at the organization’s website at www.hyff.org.
“Programs like this are not just about fun,” said Bob Bolduc, Founder. “They’re about unlocking potential, giving teens a safe space to experiment, learn and grow, and providing experiences that can change lives.”
Springfield Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Sonia Dinnall added: “This program aligns with our mission to empower students through education and opportunity. We are excited about the artistic opportunities Hope for Youth and Families is unlocking for our youth in a space reimagined just for them.”
Springfield School Committee member Joesiah Gonzalez said: “As a School Committee member—and as someone who grew up in this city—I’m proud to see education advocates like Bob Bolduc investing in a space where our kids can express themselves, feel safe, and build skills that last a lifetime.”
