The Cleveland Indians won the 1948 World Series defeating the Boston Braves 4 games to 2.

The Indians led by manager/player Lew Burdette got there by defeating the Boston Red Sox in the first ever AL playoff game to win the pennant.

It was the closest the Boston Braves and Boston Red Sox ever came to playing each other in a World Series.

Gave 5 in Cleveland broke an at then World Series attendance record of over 86,000.

It was Cleveland's 2nd World Series win. The franchise has not won a World Series since.

Jen Pawol will make her MLB debut Saturday August 9, 2025 in a game between the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves becoming the first woman umpire in MLB history to work a regular season game.

Pawol, 48, graduated from the Minor League Baseball Umpire Training Academy. Completing the MLB Advanced Course she began her professional umpiring career in the Single A Gulf Coast League in 2017. After advancing to AAA in both the International and Pacific Coast Leagues she was placed on the MLB Call Up list in 2024.

A big reason for the Boston Red Sox success this season has been their recent dominance @ Fenway Park.

Since June 30 they have gone14-2 at home and 21-5 since June 4. Since June 4 they have won 7 out of 8 home series.

Since June 13 the Blue Jays have gone 24-12 and the Yankees 14-22 flipping the AL East Division standings. In that time the Red Sox have gone 21-14 to stay competitive. Toronto now leads NY by 5.5 games and Boston by 7.5. Tampa is 9 games back. Both NY and Boston are in as Wild Card teams. Tampa is 1.5 behind in the Wild Card chase.

The Tigers have gone 15-20 but still lead the AL Central by 7.5 games.

Toronto has taken the top record in the AL, powered by a 15-4 July.
