As our community prepares to celebrate America's 250th Anniversary on Saturday, July 4, we are excited to plan an event that brings people of all ages together in a spirit of fellowship and pride to celebrate Kent County's history. This milestone is a time when we hope to showcase the traditions and organizations that make our county special. We would love for your organization to be part of this historic event.
This invitation to participate could be an opportunity for you to share the history of your organization in a patriotic display as well as maybe:
*sponsor a fundraising activity (Class of '27 and '29 have committed to sponsoring tea/ lemonade and meal booths)
*host a contest or children's games (example- Kent County Lion's club is hosting a dunking booth, the library is inviting kids to put on a talent show...)
*provide a patriotic display
*host a period dress parade
*volunteer man power
* host a scavenger hunt
All creative ideas are welcome and we invite you to share ways to make this celebration a memorable one for our community. If your group is interested, please respond with: the organization name, contact person, event sponsored, ways your group is willing to help, other suggestions for the planning committee.
The sooner you sign up, the better your chances of getting to head up the best games such as Washer Toss, egg toss, bed races, water polo, horse shoes, or your own creative ideas and have your activity included in the event schedule.
The next 250th Anniversary Celebration is planned for Thursday, June 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the community center in Jayton. All interested persons are invited to attend. Please contact Joy Miller at the library if you would like to participate and are unable to attend the meeting.
Thank you in advance for your support, participation, and community spirit.
Sincerely,
250 Committee
