High Hill Press was established in the winter of 2008. We cater to authors that have a great story to tell, and tell it with a great voice. Unlike a commercial press, your book doesn't have to fit into a specific genre, and we aren't as interested in the latest trend, as we are in a great story.

Mission: We love to publish books that people want to read, and we love to give new authors a chance.

We are anxiously waiting for the official release of a new collection of tales set in Middle England. The Minstrel of Mullington is a collection of 10 tales following the life of a traveling troubadour. Diane Smithey is the author. Our release date will be soon, we're hoping by October. Check back and we'll let you know for sure. But in the meantime, we want to show you the beautiful cover. Watch for The Minstrel of Mullington. And if you want information about how you could feature this book with your book club, contact us at www.highhillpress.com

I know I haven't used this page for awhile, but I brushed the cobwebs off and decided to show you all what we've been up to in the year since we sort of took an extended vacation from social media. We've been working on some really great books! This one, Showdown, edited and created by Brett Cogburn, will hit the shelves next week. It's a great anthology with stories by some of the best in the industry. And the cover is killer...thank you very much.

I'd been looking for this quote and someone sent it to me quite a while ago...just now found it while cleaning out my messages box. But, boy is it timely.

Just thought this quote was nice.

I've learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not on our circumstances.

Rough Country is our first hard cover book, and we're extremely proud of it. Released at the end of March, it features fifteen well-known, and soon to be well-known, authors. They weave their stories with wit, wisdom, and wonderful writing. McKendree Long's Chouteau's Crossing was chosen as a finalist for the Spur Award in Short Fiction. Mike will be honored at WWA's finalist luncheon during their convention in Sacramento this coming June. Check out their website, it's a conference well worth attending. www.weternwriters.org And ask your local bookstores and libraries to carry Rough Country.

Many of you have been with me when my cell phone rings...and it plays, "On the Road Again." Well, we're on the road again. I'm finding wifi at the top of hills, in strange bars with gigantic satellite dishes on their flat little roofs (which I'm thinking might be landing pads for alien crafts...lots of those in Kentucky), and in Cracker Barrel. When Willie stops singing, and we are home again, I'll get those brochures out to people who've asked for them. And remember to check out the website, we're adding things almost every day. And I thought it's about time I introduced you to my husband. He's really a nice guy, and promised he won't greet anyone this way at Ozark Creative Writers in October.

Pat Carr's new short story collection, The House on Prytania is one of those books you will remember long after you've finished the last word. Her stories are amazing, her writing is polished and beautiful, and her characters are often haunting, sometimes hilarious. The people who populate Pat's stories seem to get into your mind and heart and fully intend to stay there. Go to High Hill's website to order a copy now, but on May 1, it will be available everywhere.

The long wait is over. Cactus Country III is ready to go. We tried something different with this one and sent a copy to a few of our fans to get their reaction. We'll soon post their reviews on the Amazon page along with the book. Everyone told us they loved the stories and were especially entertained by the new four line westerns that Brett Cogburn gathered. There is also a short story from Matt Braun, one of the best western writers working today. Go to www.cactuscountrypublishing.blogspot.com for more information. Or contact [email protected]
