Seven years ago today, Hair Love hit theaters.
Created and directed by Matthew A. Cherry, Everett Downing Jr., and Bruce W. Smith, produced by Karen Rupert Toliver in producing collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2020.

Last month in New York, our hearts were full.
At Poets House, we watched children at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi share their poetry through a Shared Studios Portal, a life-size screen that puts you face to face in real time. Their words traveled nearly 8,000 miles, and somehow, there was no distance at all. Just children, being seen and heard, exactly as they deserve to be.

From Jamaica to LA, she has always lived in multiple worlds. She's the writer behind some of TV's most beloved girls, and she brought her talents to Iyanu.

Her work has earned 17 Emmy nominations and a win, a Peabody, a Humanitas Prize, and an NAACP Image Award.
