Hit the ❤️ for part 3
For many St. Louisans, the Gateway Geyser is one of those landmarks that quietly faded into the background of our memories.
Located across the Mississippi River in East St. Louis, the Gateway Geyser first opened in 1995 and was designed to mirror the height of the Gateway Arch itself. At full power, it shoots water nearly 630 feet into the air, making it one of the tallest fountains in the world. On a clear day, the massive plume of water could be seen from miles away and became a unique part of the St. Louis skyline.
If you grew up in the area, there’s a good chance you remember spotting it from the highway, seeing it during a trip downtown, or watching it rise above the riverfront and wondering just how high it actually went. It was one of those things that made our region feel a little more special.
The Gateway Geyser may not get talked about as much as the Arch, Busch Stadium, or Union Station, but it remains one of the most impressive and overlooked landmarks in the entire St. Louis area.
Did you ever see the Gateway Geyser in person?
