The Mid-America Board of Governors is excited to welcome Dave Sharp to the Silver Circle!

With more than four decades in television, Dave’s 41-year career stands as a testament to his unwavering passion for storytelling. He began his journey in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he taught himself to shoot and edit video, while also stepping in front of the camera to host a daily 30-minute talk show and appear in regional commercials.

His path took him through newsrooms in Wilmington, NC, and Chattanooga, TN, before he joined KTVI in St. Louis in 1989—a station he’s called home for over three decades.

At Fox2Now, Dave’s work has spanned some of the most significant moments in recent history. He was the sole cameraman granted access to film the meeting between Pope John Paul II and President Bill Clinton—an unforgettable moment in global news. He’s documented championship wins for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Rams, and the Blues. And for the past 20 years, Dave has served as a cornerstone of KTVI’s investigative unit, partnering with reporter Chris Hayes on stories that have earned national recognition.

Dave’s excellence behind the camera has earned him more than 30 Regional Emmy Awards and seven Edward R. Murrow Awards—a testament to a career defined by quality, integrity, and impact.

Outside the newsroom, Dave has contributed his skills to a military training company that prepares elite special forces units for mission-critical operations—an experience he describes as humbling and inspiring. However, Dave’s greatest passion may be animal rescue. A dedicated advocate for vulnerable animals, he volunteers and serves on the boards of several local shelters, including the Carol House Quick Fix Pet Clinic. At home, he cares for a pack of seven dogs, five of whom have special needs.

Check out the comments to see how Dave's team surprised him with the news!

The Mid-America Board of Governors is excited to welcome Kelly Goodwin to the Silver Circle!

Kelly Goodwin's journalism career has come full circle. Kelly started her college career in September 1988 at Eastern Illinois University, and during a broadcasting class her freshman year, she learned about a radio/TV center housed on campus. She worked up the courage to visit the facility (WEIU-Radio/T.V.) and management quickly convinced her to volunteer for the nightly student-produced newscast. Kelly started on the production team, but during her sophomore year she was recruited to fill-in as the anchor for the agriculture report. Growing up outside of St. Louis, her knowledge of "agriculture" was limited. She quickly learned a lot about commodities, cultivation and cattle!

While in college, Kelly also completed internships at WICD-TV, WBGZ Radio and Rabinowitz Communications in Washington, DC. After graduation, she accepted a position at WTHI-TV (CBS) in Terre Haute as an anchor, reporter and producer. She spent ten years at WTHI, before returning to her alma mater to accept the position of news director at ... WEIU TV Public Broadcasting Station! Kelly has had the privilege to train and work alongside hundreds of broadcasting students who've won numerous awards and launched careers in small, medium and large market stations. She said "the students have been my extended family for the last twenty plus years. It’s my honor to see them grow up, be successful in media careers and start families of their own."

Kelly also credits her broadcasting career to meeting her husband, former city of Charleston Fire Chief, Pat Goodwin! Together, they enjoy fishing, camping and traveling to new places.

The Mid-America EMMY Awards/NATAS Board of Governors is excited to welcome Paul Pepper to the Gold Circle!

Growing up in an Italian family on The Hill in St. Louis, young Paul Urzi loved television & dreamed of working in the industry. Taking the air name Paul “Pepper,” he began his career in television in 1969 as a booth announcer for KOMU-TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, Missouri.

From reading live commercials and announcements between programs to taking the helm as the station’s weatherman, Paul quickly grew to be the best-known on-air personality in central Missouri.

After more than 20 years of weathercasting, Paul added to his on-air duties producing & hosting a live talk show called “Pepper and Friends” in 1982. After a 27 year run on KOMU-TV, a format change led to Paul moving the program to cable & public television, radio & eventually streaming, producing it in the studios at the Missouri School of Journalism.

After decades as a weathercaster and more than 6000 episodes of his talk show over 41 years, Paul retired in 2023 to be remembered by his colleagues and peers as the consummate local television professional who lived and worked to serve his community and the people of central Missouri. Congrats, Paul.
