St. Louis County just approved $3 million to keep nurses and medical staff inside the county jail and juvenile detention center.

On one hand, this is about real people and saving lives.

On the other hand, council members say this should not have turned into a last-minute emergency if the proper budget process had been followed.

So here’s the real question:

Should essential services get approved quickly when lives are on the line…

or should government slow down to make sure every spending rule is followed?

Better yet — how do we make sure government does both:

protect lives AND protect taxpayer dollars?

Missouri lawmakers want to eliminate the state income tax. Sounds great… until you ask the next question.

If the income tax goes away, the state still has to replace $9 BILLION in revenue. That likely means expanding sales taxes on more goods and services.

And that could hit working families the hardest.

So St. Louis, what do you think?
