After our proprietary tallow mix is introduced to our harness leather, the sides are moved upstairs and hung by hand to allow the tallows to dry and cure. The sorting process is the finishing team’s first chance to assign a rough grade to a side. After coming up from the drying floors, the leather is trimmed, and then waits to be graded by a supervisor as seen here. Weights are gauged, grades are assigned, and sides are taken to the stacks where they can be selected to fill orders.
