"The counsels of God are permanent—impeccable exhortations from His mind, His will, His heart, and His actions in Christ. Everything that proceeds from God’s wisdom is congruent. Barren wombs are filled with offspring. Desolate wastelands are restored. God’s Word resurrects what once was decimated. These astonishing interventions transform our lives so that we may unconditionally invest our sanctified bodies, minds, and gifts all to the glory of God!" —Worship Planning Book, Year A

O Lord, thank You for knowing us so completely! Confound the abortionists, the “men of blood” (Psalm 139:19) and others who would abuse and harm the bodies You have made. Lead us to agree with Your judgment against sin, especially with the sin in our own lives. Cleanse us with Christ’s blood, born of the Virgin Mary, who is present for our salvation in His Word and Sacraments. Amen.

"This anguished cry of confession from the depths of guilt finds God’s absolution and renewal on the certain footing of grace alone (sola gratia). Sin is an inheritance, born in us, ever damaging us. None of our works can ever set us free from terror, despair, or death. However, God has blotted out even the worst of our sins—adultery and murder—by Jesus’ sacrifice."

Holy Spirit, create me new again, giving joy for sadness. Have mercy on me, O God, and cleanse me from my sin. Amen.

(Excerpt from The Lutheran Study Bible notes for Psalm 51)

"In "Ten Treasures of Learning to Pray", Jones does a fantastic job of reminding God's people that prayer is a conversation. Jones takes this spiritual practice and connects it to ordinary life, showing readers that prayer does not have to be elaborate, lengthy, or filled with theological language. Instead, prayer is a simple and meaningful way of bringing our everyday joys, frustrations, questions, and struggles before God. . . .As someone who has read all three of Jones's "Ten Things" series, I feel like this is his best one yet!" —Laura, CPH Customer Review

"Joel Meyer’s Soundbite Theology brings a fresh look at often-spoken clichés that well-meaning Christians say in attempts to offer comfort or support to others. Meyer offers a clear-eyed discussion of several of these, exposing their weaknesses, especially in that they often offer the Law to people who desperately need to hear Gospel encouragement. Meyer helps readers understand how to avoid the pitfalls of convenient but ineffective sound bites and to instead offer real comfort from God’s Word."
—Andrew Steinmann, distinguished professor emeritus of theology and Hebrew; chair, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Commission on Doctrinal Review

Soundbite Theology: How to Talk like a Christian by Rev. Dr. Joel P. Meyer will be available September 15. Learn more and preorder at the link in the comments.
