🍿 We may bring you the films of yesteryear, but getting out the movies is our jam— especially when there’s a new film featuring our podcast regular, Billy Murray.
🎥 RIFF RAFF (2025) A retired mob hitman, Vincent (Ed Harris), had reinvented his life, but is now drawn back into his former world when his son (Lewis Pullman) crashes his a wholesome, step-family woodland getaway.
Turns out that Lewis, in an act of defending his pregnant girlfriend, accidentally kills the son of Vincent’s former hitman partner, Leftie (Bill Murray).
Leftie, along with his hitman partner (Pete Davidson), attempt to track down not only Lewis, but Vincent & his entire family in order to equal the score tenfold… and if you thought this drama was enough, get ready— there’s so much more.
————————————————————— This felt like a ‘90s tongue-in-cheek crime dramedy, hollering back to very Tarantino-esque inspirations. It’s a romp, a road movie, a semi-tension builder of a crime family affair.
The story may wind & drift, but always returns to the focus. For whatever it may lack in story, it makes up for with interesting & entertaining, dynamically different characters.
The cast is stacked to the ceiling, with solid performances all around. If you love Jennifer Coolidge, you will not be disappointed. Harris might be understated, but Murray playing the bad guy is always a treat. Could’ve used a little more Gabrielle Union, especially with how the film makes its exit, all nicely sewed up at the end.
