Throwback Thursday | Song Spotlight: “Painted Pony”

For today’s Salvation Studios Throwback Thursday, we’re reaching back into the catalog for a Song Spotlight on “Painted Pony” by Tanya Handkins.

One of the things we love about Tanya’s music is her ability to tell a story without needing to overcomplicate it. “Painted Pony” is one of those songs that carries the warmth and character that helped define the Travel On... era.

Every artist on the Salvation Studios roster brings something different to the table, and Tanya’s music has always carried a personality unmistakably her own.

Today, Salvation Studios celebrates the man behind the vision.

Happy 40th Birthday to our CEO, Jermaine Bollinger!

For years, Jermaine has poured his heart into building Salvation Studios, creating music, developing artists, performing, producing, and finding new ways to turn a lifelong love of music into something bigger than himself.

But today isn’t about charts, releases, streams, or accomplishments.

It’s about celebrating the person behind all of it—the husband, father, musician, friend, and leader whose passion continues to drive everything we do.

Forty years down, and there’s still so much music to make, so many stories to tell, and plenty of road ahead.

Today, we congratulate Jermaine Bollinger and proudly stand behind him as he releases his deeply personal memoir, Music Never Hurt Me.

Most people know Jermaine through music—as an artist, producer, musician, and the founder of Salvation Studios. But this book tells the story behind the music.

It is a story Jermaine carried for nearly 40 years.

Music Never Hurt Me doesn't shy away from the difficult chapters. It speaks openly about pain, bullying, broken relationships, generational cycles, mistakes, survival, and the experiences that ultimately shaped the person and artist he became.

Writing something this personal means allowing people into parts of your life that would be much easier to keep private. Today, we recognize Jermaine for choosing to tell that story in his own words.

Salvation Studios was built on the belief that art should give people a place to tell the truth, find their voice, and create something meaningful from what they've lived through.

Today, our founder has done exactly that.

We congratulate Jermaine on the release of Music Never Hurt Me, and we are proud to stand behind him, his story, and his right to tell it.

CADET IS OUT NOW!

Today, September 4, SUMMER of ’86 officially launches “Cadet,” the latest single from the upcoming Tribute project!

Inspired by the classic 3D Pinball: Space Cadet, “Cadet” takes that unmistakable PC gaming nostalgia and transforms it into an energetic instrumental built for an entirely different kind of high-score chase.

This Tribute series has given SUMMER of ’86 an opportunity to take the sounds, memories, and energy of classic video games and completely reimagine them—blending rock, jazz, orchestral influences, and plenty of surprises along the way.

And today, another piece of that project is officially out in the world.

Salvation Studios has always believed that music is more than entertainment. Sometimes it becomes a place to heal, a way to communicate what couldn't be said before, and a means of turning difficult experiences into something meaningful.

On September 8, our founder and CEO, Jermaine Bollinger, will release his memoir, Music Never Hurt Me.

This is an intensely personal project that reaches far beyond Jermaine's career in music. It is his story of childhood, family, bullying, faith, mistakes, survival, fatherhood, and his effort to understand and break the cycles that shaped his life.

The title comes from one of the central realizations of the book: when so many other places in his life caused pain, music became somewhere he could belong. In the memoir, Jermaine describes rhythm as grounding, performance as release, and rehearsal as sanctuary.

Salvation Studios supports Jermaine's right to tell his own story, including the difficult and deeply personal parts of it.

This isn't about controversy.

It's about what the title has said from the beginning:

Salvation Studios has been through many metamorphoses over the years—different locations, different cities, different chapters—and somehow, every one of them has led us to where we are today.

Today, we’re looking back at where the Salvation Studios label began.

In 2017, Jermaine Bollinger released the music video for “You're Everything,” from the very first album released under the Salvation Studios label. It’s hard to believe that was almost a decade ago.

So much has changed since then.

The label has grown and evolved. People have come and gone. Our direction has expanded, our roster has changed, and Salvation Studios has become something much bigger than what it was in those early days.

But one thing hasn’t changed.

We’re here to help spread music to the world.

Nearly a decade later, we can look back at “You're Everything” and see more than an old music video. We see a piece of our history. We see where this journey began—and a reminder of just how far we’ve come.

Different eras. Different places. Different people. 118 YouTube videos later...

Same love for the music.

And we’re still here.

Growing up, Shatterhand was one of the games that had a lasting impact on me. Its music inspired me as a musician, and this new instrumental project is my way of honoring one of the greatest NES soundtracks ever created while bringing my own style as a composer, arranger, and performer to the music.
