THE ISSUES

The Issue's host Sarah Bernard discusses how driving is a responsibility and that it’s not a game nor is it a fundamental right. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 1.6 million car accidents are caused annually by drivers using cell phones, texting, or simply due to driver error. At least 57% are caused by alcohol and impaired drivers. No matter what
causes an accident, family members are left with ongoing issues and certainly heavy
hearts. Sarah discusses these issues with guest Dawn Whalen, Jennifer Neldon, and Ella Brewer who were tragically affected by traffic accident. Also, Simon
Anderson of Coach Harder Driving School, Allyn Workman with Safe Driving and First Impact, and Tabitha Perkins, of MADD. weigh in on the discussion

“I would like to thank my mom and my brothers back home. They have instilled in me that there is good in everything.” -Seaman Jessie Lindsay

Seaman Lindsay is a St. Louis native and 2024 Kirkwood High School grad. As a submariner, he is part of a small percentage of Navy personnel continuing a 125-year tradition of service under the sea to help ensure Americans’ safety. He is assigned to USS Scranton, a fast-attack submarine homeported at Naval Base Point Loma. We thank him for his service.
