Trees are the lungs of the Earth. Whether small or big, tall or squat, young or old their breath tells a story. Each tree is individual and unique, and these stories of the past reveal and lead us into the vast history of what use to be. Nature is simple and yet utterly complex and that is where true beauty is found, it lies in the grain where patterns, knots, and flow of wood fibers all come toge
ther like an orchestra’s final crescendo inevitably eliciting an inward and personal, emotional response of awe and wonder. Here at Dobnick Timberworks we believe this is one of the great un-grasped treasures that nature and trees have to offer a society interwoven in the urbanized busy hustle and bustle of technology. Dobnick Timberworks is seeking to slow down and grasp the beauty within the hidden stories of our urban forest by creating timeless handcrafted furniture and timber products. Our goal, as a company, is to embody what Aristotle said about art, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance”. Bringing to life the “significance” is more than a business here at Dobnick Timberworks, it is a passion to cultivate minds through our designs, and more importantly, it is our part in responsibly recycling and repurposing our locally-sourced urban forest in order to sequester carbon from our atmosphere. This allows us to minimize our carbon footprint and bring about a greener planet where the generations to come not only have a place to experience nature’s exquisite stories and allure, but our world will be better, greener, and healthier than when we came into it. We will leave you with this; take some time out of your busy, technologically overloaded day and take a stroll through your local woods, a park, or even your own back yard. Don’t just look at the trees, but close your eyes and listen to the rustle of the leaves as the wind blows through them. Listen to the earth breathe and take a minute or two and think not how tall, wide, or even old these trees may be, but rather what story do they have to tell. This is where you will find the beauty of nature and our urban forests. Some trees have a story to tell while others have several tales. Many people consider that trees can be small or big, tall or squat, and some have been around for a very long time, but many people miss the “significance” of a walk in the woods. It’s more than a mere walk in the woods; it is a place where trees speak. Allow one of our pieces to captivate your heart or even someone else’s, as it tells its story for this generation and those to come.
