Sheriff, District Attorney give update on Cedar Bluff slayings
Sheriff Eddie Scott said at a 1 p.m. Saturday press conference that Daricka Moore murdered six people in Cedar Bluff before being apprehended.
Scott said the investigation is ongoing at four concurrent crime scenes.
Moore is charged with first degree murder which will be updated to capital murder, with more charges expected.
Friday evening, CCSO received a calls from the Cedar Bluff area and responded.
Moore shot and killed his father Glenn Moore (67), uncle Willie Ed Guines (55) and brother Quinten Moore (33) at a residence on David Hill Road.
Moore then stole a truck belonging to the latter and broke into a separate home on Blake Road where he attempted to commit a sexual battery. He killed an unnamed 7-year-old and pressed his gun to a younger child at this scene. Moore was related to the victims at this scene as well. It was not apparent at the time of the press conference whether or not Moore intended to kill the second child.
He then proceeded to Siloam-Griffith Road and hid the truck. He killed two more men at the residence, Barry and Samuel Bradley (no ages given) and stole their vehicle.
Scott said dozens of officers from separate agencies saturated the area Friday night to locate Moore.
Moore was arrested at 11:24 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Pine Road and Joe Myers Road.
No motive was known Saturday. It is unknown where Moore got the fi****ms, how many he used, nor if he owned it. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.
District Attorney Scott Colom, Sheriff Scott, and their respective offices extended condolences and prayers to the community and the families and friends of the victims.
Colom said that pending actions and investigations, the District Attorney’s office plans to pursue the death penalty.
Colom appointed Trina Davidson-Brooks as special prosecutor at her request.
The shooting is the second mass shooting in Clay County in recent years.
Scott said the tragedy should spur conversations “all across the country” on how to prevent mass shootings.
All charges are pending trial and his actions are alleged. CCSO continues to ask the public to contact them or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers with any information.
The Daily Times Leader will follow the investigation and update its readers.n
