Helen Wendel, age 96, of State Center and formerly of rural Rhodes, passed away Wednesday late afternoon in the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 13th, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center with Pastor Melissa Waterman officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery at State Center. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Helen and her family.

Lois Elaine (Speer) Poling, 89 of State Center passed away on Thursday, October 2nd at Bethany Life in Story City, Iowa. Services for Lois will take place on Saturday, October 25 (please note date) at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 1:00 P.M. She will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in State Center. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Rose Queen Riley Randall and Rose Princess Rachel Randall are collecting donations for the Christian Community Cupboard, a free food pantry serving those in need right here in the West Marshall community.

🧺 A donation drop-off box is located at Central State Bank — stop by and help us stock the shelves with love and generosity!

🛒 Most appreciated items include:

Peanut butter
Canned meats
Canned fruits & vegetables
Pasta & pasta sauce
Stuffing
Rice

As we prepare for the holiday season, the officers of the State Center Police Department prepare for our biggest event of the year, SHOP WITH A COP.

This year's event will be held on Sunday, December 7th.

The number of West Marshall families we are able to assist rests with our supporters.

We will do our part to raise awareness to this worthwhile cause by walking 24 miles in 24 hours covering every street and avenue in State Center.

More information on this event will be released soon, and the community is invited to join us for as many miles as they like.

Shirts will be available for anyone who completes the 24-mile challenge with us.

Donations may be dropped off at the State Center City Hall, Central State Bank or through Venmo.
