Carol Lee (Drake) Drees born on 01/21/1935 passed away 12/31/2025 in Cheyenne, WY from complications of a broken femur. Carol was born at home in C**n Rapids, IA to Roland and Helen (Davis) Drake. She attended country school until 8th grade then went to town school in C**n Rapids. In town she learned to play basketball and was a star forward. At 18 she went to the University of Northern Iowa where she received a Teacher Certificate in lower elementary education. In 1954 she met Herbert Drees and they married in Templeton, IA in 1955. Their happy marriage lasted almost 64 years before Herb's death. Herb, Carol and family lived in IA and WI before settling in State Center, IA in 1972. While in State Center Carol formed and taught at the Busy Bee preschool for 23 years and also was voted to be on the school board of the West Marshall School. After retirement the couple also wintered in San Juan, TX. Their final move was to Cheyenne, WY to be closer to family. Carol is survived by her sister Laura Jean (Drake) Keenan and 5 children (oldest to youngest): Pamela (Roger) Rehurek, Audrey (David) Bourgeois, Kirk (Pamela) Drees, Lisa (Esteban) Ramirez, and Eric (Cami) Drees. She has 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date in Templeton, IA.

Come ring in the new year and support your West Marshall FFA THIS FRIDAY, January 2nd, during the home high school basketball games! From 5:00-7:30 pm in the High School cafeteria, you can enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal with all proceeds benefitting the FFA program.

I-35 UPDATE - I-35 from Ames to Minnesota is now fully open! Travelers should use extreme caution on partially snow and ice-covered (blue) roads with scattered snowpack. 🚗 Put plenty of distance between vehicles 🚗 and take it slower as conditions continue to improve. Drive safe!

✅ I-35 UPDATE: We're planning to reopen I-35 from Ames to Minnesota early this afternoon. Iowa State Patrol is working to remove disabled vehicles and we're clearing snow and ice-packed roadways.
