EVOLVE YOUR SKILLS, EVOLVE YOUR CAREER:
Alumni Interest Group Roundtable
Tuesday, April 7 - 6 p.m. EST
For Zoom link email: [email protected]

Chat with Claudia Vargas, a bilingual investigative reporter at NBC10 and Telemundo62 in Philadelphia, who got her start at The Daily Collegian. Claudia has continuously evolved her skills to keep in front of rapid changes in media.

At this roundtable she’ll share how she has done this both by mastering new, cross-platform storytelling techniques, and by excelling at what always works: finding the stories that matter and holding the powerful to account.

Claudia’s investigative stories have led to new laws and changes in city, state and federal policy. Her work at NBC10 has garnered several regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and mid-Atlantic Emmys. Her career journey has taken through the Democrat & Chronicle in Rochester, NY, and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Moderated by Collegian Editor-in-Chief Mercedes Hamilton, this promises to be an inspiring conversation full of real-world stories and practical advice.

The Collegian Alumni Interest Group has been honored by the Penn State Alumni Association for its support of and involvement with current Collegian staffers and Collegian alumni.

The AIG is recognized as an Affiliate Group of Distinction at the Elm Level based on activities and achievements during the 2024-25 reporting year.

“This achievement places your group among our highest-performing affiliate groups and reflects the dedication and commitment of your members,” Lauren Wright, Alumni Association Regional Director (Chapters) Volunteer Engagement, wrote to the AIG board in announcing the recognition.

Among the AIG’s accomplishments was the successful establishment of the Collegian Alumni Interest Group Sustaining Fund in partnership with the Alumni Association. The Sustaining Fund is intended to “provide stipends and prizes that reward excellence and fuel the innovation necessary for the Collegian to thrive in the digital age,” according to AIG President Robyn Radomski.

In a message to AIG board members about the Alumni Association honor, Radomski wrote: “This is a meaningful achievement and a direct reflection of your commitment, creativity, and steady leadership on behalf of our alumni community. … Thank you for the time, energy, and thoughtfulness each of you brings to this board. It has been a pleasure to work alongside such a dedicated group, and I am truly grateful for all you do.”

Dear Collegian friends - in this season of thankfulness and giving, let's work together to make sure that our current Collegian staff - and future generations - continue to enjoy the same opportunities we all had.

Please consider making a donation at the link below toward the Collegian's future, and make sure the Penn State community continues to benefit from the essential reporting produced by a strong student newsroom. Thank you!
