Can fifth Street ever fire anyone for a normal reason like not doing their job well?!? 2 gone over past 2 weeks. One for feeding someone on their "banned" list - yup fired for feeding the hungry and the other for sleeping with residents. Will they ever get their s**t together?!?

Fifth Street Ministries just keeps it going. Do they even interview people before they hire them? One female employee has slept with multiple residents continually and a male employee touching himself in public? Oh My!

Must be nice to have your boyfriend crash your car and not have to spend money on a rental because as the executive director, you have the ability to use a vehicle donated to the shelter for your own personal use.

New volunteer coordinator Emily went above the call of duty this past Friday delivering food, water and medicines to individuals living in tents near the shelter. Thank you Emily!!!

From Drug Felons Distribution of Narcotics to Addicts Having Access to Overdose

Fifth Street Ministries New Protocol Continues to Place Residents at Risk

It is important to consider the safety and well-being of everyone involved when it comes to employment, especially in sensitive environments like Fifth Street Ministries. Over the past years, Fifth Street Ministries has employed multiple convicted drug felons and addicts in their office. This would not be of concern if the nurse was the one to distribute medications to residents, but it was in fact the office staff that distributed medications and have had access to medications all day and night on every shift. There were an overwhelming number of reports of residents medications being missing completely and residents being given less than their described doses. This is a very disturbing and urgent issue that they did finally address, but their solution leaves the door open for a different disturbing outcome.

Fifth Street Ministries new drug protocol has residents placing their medication in personal lock boxes, leaving residents in the position where they have access to all of their medication at all times and that poses serious risks.

While this might seem perfectly acceptable since residents are adults, a large percentage of the residents at the shelter are addicts, both recovering and currently using, and individuals with felony drug charges. Allowing them access to narcotic and addictive medication leaves the door wide open for them to abuse the medication, overdose, or share or sell it to others. Addicts, especially those in recovery do not need the added temptation. We would think Executive Director, Michele Knapp would know this.

Instead of placing added temptation on already struggling individuals would it not be more beneficial to offer them additional forms of support by implementing a protocol that does not put residents at further risk? Would it not be more conducive to their rehabilitation and continued successful reintegration into society? Split shift nursing staff so that medication can be distributed properly by a nurse possibly? While we don't claim to have all the answers, senior management at Fifth Street who have access to professionals to consult with can surely come up with something better than putting bottles full of narcotics in the hands of addicts and those in recovery. We urge the Fifth Street Ministries Board Members and the community to get involved, ask the questions and hold those in power accountable.

By focusing on creating a safe, supportive, and drug-free environments for both employees and those seeking assistance, Fifth Street Ministries could better serve the community and foster a culture of recovery and well-being for all individuals involved.

An office employee at was fired for stealing $1100 worth of brand new donated items. No charges were filed though. We guess fifth street thinks it’s okay to steal from the homeless. More like they don’t want their donors knowing what goes on.
That same employee was signing late slips for residents saying that they were working overnight when they were really at her house using drugs.
New management is desperately needed at Fifth Street!

Fifth Street this past week allowed past residents, even those banned to return due to the extreme weather for a week. They did NOT however allow the woman who went to them about the sexual misconduct of their now former staff member to return for the week even though she never had so much as a write up.

While we are happy something was done to address last Saturday's food issue, we don't understand why Jeremy was fired but the kitchen manager was not. Jeremy did not deserve it. He at least always tried to help but his hands were tied often by upper management. Upper management is what needs to go!

Fifth Street Ministries held meetings is each dorm last night. They threaten residents that if they posted or commented on this page that they would be out on the street. Management needs to be held accountable for once again victimizing their residents. Do they not know about the whistleblower protection act or the first amendment??? Please share!!!!
