Have you had the conversation yet?

This week on Good Morning LKN, we were joined by Michelle Schmerge, President of EquityHealth, to talk about the importance of advance care planning. Michelle reminds us that these conversations aren’t just for aging loved ones—anyone can face unexpected diagnoses in their 40s, 50s, or beyond.

She encourages families to talk openly about what care they want, where they’d prefer to be, and how they envision their lives if caregiving becomes necessary. Planning ahead means less stress in a crisis and more peace of mind for everyone.

On this episode of Town Talk with the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce…

We were joined by H. Mike Cook, President of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory; Jim Combs, Financial Advisor with United Community Advisors; and Robert G. McIntosh, Attorney at Law with the McIntosh Law Firm.

The conversation explored the traditions of Freemasonry and the impact of the Shriners. As Mike Cook shared, Shriners are a fraternity built on fun, fellowship, and Masonic principles of love, relief, and brotherly love and truth—brought to life through their philanthropy, Shriners Children’s. His own journey began in the early ’70s when, as a student in Cincinnati, he visited a Shriners burn hospital for children. Seeing the compassion and care provided there inspired him to get involved, a commitment that has lasted nearly 50 years.

Town Talk airs Wednesdays at 4pm. Catch up on WSIC and the WSIC Mobile App.
