Staunton Makerspace The Makerspace is a non-profit organization focusing on innovation, collaboration, and creativity. We hope to establish a location in Downtown Staunton.

We ensure affordable tools, training, and resources are available to the community for personal growth, career advancement and entrepreneurship. "Makerspaces typically provide access to materials, tools, and technologies to allow for hands-on exploration and participatory learning. I tend of think of MakerSpaces are modern libraries where you can get hands-on access to technology that is not widely available, such as 3D printers and Computer controlled Routers. It's also a place to get access to people with real expertise in electonics, manufacturing, art, and programming. A delightful collision of skills and expertise that could help us experiment successfully. We are working to establish (and would welcome contact from) local educational groups and organizations.

Dottie has been hard at work in Alex’s knife making class and her progress is looking pretty sharp! From shaping her blade to learning the finer points of knife making, Dottie is proving that a little determination, a lot of patience, and some expert guidance can turn a piece of steel into something pretty amazing!

That’s the magic of the Staunton Makerspace. You don’t have to know how to make something when you walk through our doors. You just have to be willing to learn!

Keep going, Dottie! We can’t wait to see the finished knife! 🔪👏

The BRCC STEM Club has taken over the Staunton Makerspace with a mission worthy of the Rebel Alliance: build a 3D printed R2D2.

Because apparently regular homework wasn’t challenging enough. 😂

This project is exactly what a Makerspace is all about. Need a 3D printer? We’ve got them. Need tools to assemble your slightly overambitious robot? Yep. Need a place to design, build, troubleshoot, take something apart, put it back together, realize you have three mystery screws left over, and ask someone, “Does this look right to you?” Definitely.

The Staunton Makerspace gives students, makers, inventors, artists, and the simply curious access to tools, equipment, workspace, and most importantly a community of people who know how to make stuff.

And sometimes that “stuff” happens to be a life size astromech droid.

We’ll be following along as the BRCC STEM Club turns a mountain of 3D printed parts into R2D2.
