Steamboat Springs boasts a vibrant ✨live music✨ scene but it's not just contained to city limits. The mountains are alive with the sound of music – from local acts to touring bluegrass bands, one of the best things about Routt County is that you can find live music everywhere – from North Routt to Oak Creek. Check out these off-the-beaten-path spots for great tunes, views and brews. 🎸🥁🎤

Printmaking involves a multitude of hazardous chemicals. So when Leon Loughridge started having serious health reactions to mineral spirits and linseed oil he had to find a different way to make his prints. This led Leon to the Japanese method of printmaking called moku hanga – a process entirely based on touch and handwork.

Find some of DCArtPress work at Steamboat Art Museum before the current exhibit gets taken down on September 1.

Fara Tolno – although a Guinea native – is no stranger to Steamboat Springs. That’s because Steamboat’s roots with African dance and drum run deep. They can be traced back to when Robin Getter introduced the craft to the community in the '80s. In the decades that followed, Steamboat has embraced African dance and drums, creating a community of people who have choreographed dances for Steamboat Dance Theatre, attended workshops across the country (and the world, even) and hosted events that bring master drummers to Steamboat because, as they point out, you can’t have African dance without African drums.

At a recent historical painting event held at the Steamboat Botanical Gardens, attendees of all ages gathered to connect with local history and creativity. The Tread of Pioneers Museum kicked off the day with a lively and informative talk about Steamboat Springs’ early settlers, the Crawford family, highlighting their journey into the valley and their decision to stay for its stunning beauty, fresh air, and peaceful lifestyle. Afterward, participants received watercolor supplies and were encouraged to explore the gardens, capturing the vibrant scenery through art inspired by the same natural charm that first drew pioneers to the area.

The next watercolor event will take place on Tuesday, August 5 10:30-11:30am at the Steamboat Botanical Gardens. Find more information here: https://www.treadofpioneers.org/events/event/3966677

People often do a double-take when they first see the series of paintings depicting U.S. currency by Colorado artist Gregory Block. Rather than the expected faces of dead presidents, the artwork, which is on display at Romick Gallery, depicts icons of the Yampa Valley. “They are the true currency of our community, and I don’t want people to forget that,” says Gregory Block, the artist responsible for the six works in his latest series.

The Steamboat Art Museum just got a little more colorful. Thanks to a partnership with Enchroma, a company that specializes in creating glasses that allow colorblind people the ability to see the full spectrum of colors, three members of the community were able to experience art in a way they never have before.

Early testers of the glasses included Rick Wodnik and father/daughter duo Michael and Maggie Gould. Through the rose-colored lenses, they checked out pieces from SAM’s current exhibit, “The Art of Printmaking: Process and Passion.” Their reactions to the glasses gave a new perspective on the invisible limitations that colorblind people deal with on a daily basis.

At Tahk Omakase Sushi, every dish tells a story — one rooted in centuries-old Edo-Mae tradition and brought to life by the passion and precision of Chef Thak Sung-Tae. With fish flown in from Tokyo’s famed Toyosu Market and nearly 30 years of experience, Chef Tahk turns sushi into a meditative craft. 🍣✨

From delicate aging techniques to his minimalist approach, each omakase meal is more than just dinner — it’s a curated, immersive experience. Tradition meets innovation, right here in the heart of the Rockies.

The artists at Pine Moon Fine Art are playing a creative game of “Telephone” — and you're invited to see how the message changes.

In this imaginative group exhibit, each of the 13 artists created a new piece inspired only by the one before it — no titles, no explanations, just visual interpretation. The result? A stunning and surprising chain of artwork in mediums from acrylic to ceramics to glass.

Catch the full lineup now on display at the gallery, and don’t miss the first Artist Talk of the summer on Thursday, June 12 from 5–6 p.m. to hear how it all unfolded.

“Telephone Game” is on view through June at Pine Moon Fine Art.

Imagine a world where a prescription doesn’t come in a pill bottle, but in the form of art, music, or nature.
In Routt County, where youth mental health has been deeply impacted post-pandemic, Prescription for the Arts offers a new kind of healing. The program connects adolescents with creative and cultural experiences—museum visits, concerts, dance classes, painting lessons—as an alternative to traditional medication.

Led by Dagny McKinley and Jennifer Grathwohl, and prescribed through local healthcare providers, the initiative aims to combat depression, anxiety, isolation and more by fostering connection, creativity and confidence. Participants are supported every step of the way, and artists and arts organizations are paid for their involvement.

It’s a new kind of care, rooted in community. And for many, it might be the most meaningful prescription they’ll ever receive.
