OBITUARIES PAGE UPDATES -- The Flash Today has added new updates to the obituaries page, including James “Jim” Ray Scroggins, 77, of Stephenville, who passed away on Sunday, June 14. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during such a difficult time.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, at Stephenville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, at Stephenville Funeral Home.
Born on October 7, 1948, Jim never met a stranger. He was the kind of man who would lend a hand when it was needed and work from sunrise to sunset without complaint. He believed in keeping his word, taking care of his family, and doing a job right the first time.
The greatest joy of Jim’s life was his family.
For more than 43 years, Jim dedicated himself to building Circle J Backhoe Service & Construction, Inc. What started as a business became a lifelong passion and a source of pride. Through countless long days and years of determination, he built not only a successful company but a reputation for honesty, dependability, and excellence. It brought him great comfort knowing that the business he loved will continue under the ownership and leadership of James David and Lesley Halford.
When the workday was over, Jim enjoyed the things that made life exciting. He loved drag racing, collecting and shooting fi****ms, traveling, and riding his Harley with Lisa. He appreciated simple pleasures, good conversations, and time spent with the people he loved most.
Those who knew Jim will remember his strength, his stubborn determination, his generous heart, and the way he showed his love through actions more than words. He was a protector, a provider, a mentor, and a friend. His presence filled a room, and his absence will be deeply felt.
While our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the years, memories, lessons, and love he gave us. His story lives on through his family, his friends, the business he built, and everyone whose life was made better because Jim was a part of it.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Erath County United Way or the Harbin Volunteer Fire Department, causes that were dear to Jim and his family.
