OBITUARIES PAGE UPDATES -- The Flash Today has added new updates to the obituaries page, including Neta Rae Sees, 94, who passed away on Saturday, October 4. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during such a difficult time.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, at Bluff Dale Baptist Church. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service. Graveside service at Glenn Cemetery in Bluff Dale to be held immediately following the funeral service.

Neta was a phenomenal mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, a loving and loyal friend and an overall remarkable human being. Neta was born on November 4, 1930, in Dallas, Texas, to the late James Ben and Ruby Barron McCormick.

After graduating from high school, Neta went on to attend North Texas State University, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in physical education. She began her PE Teaching career in La Marque and ended it with her retirement from Garland ISD in 1990.

Neta has been the proud owner of the Barron family farm, located in the heart of the tiny metropolis of Bluff Dale, Texas, for many years. Anyone who’s known Neta knows this farm is her pride and joy, second only to her family. Over the years, Neta spent as much time there as possible, whether to just sit on the front porch enjoying coffee and welcoming the day or preparing the screened-in back porch to host another large family gathering. These porches were her sanctuary from the everyday world; to watch the deer and turkey come to graze at the always well stocked feeders, to welcome any visitor who happened to drop by for a chat, to visit with her siblings, nieces and nephews who reside(d) in Bluff Dale, to make sure she was on-time for annual cemetery working or attend a local event at the firehouse because her brother and nephew volunteered there. It was on this farm that she did most of her hunting and fishing whenever the season was upon us. Beyond her passion for the Farm and anything active and outdoorsy, Neta was an avid travel enthusiast, an awesome bridge and dominoes player, and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, despite the last 30 years.

Neta married her sweetheart, Clarence “Bud” Sees, in 1952 and later welcomed their son Mark Wayne, the only child of their union.

Neta will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. To learn more or to view local obituaries for free, check out The Flash Today by clicking here: http://theflashtoday.com/category/obits/

OBITUARIES PAGE UPDATES -- The Flash Today has added new updates to the obituaries page, including Linda Ann Allen, 81, a beautiful sister, daughter, friend, and aunt, who passed away on Saturday, October 4, in Abilene. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during such a difficult time.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 10, in the Desdemona Cemetery. Visitation with the Allen family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, at the Stephenville Funeral Home.

Linda was born in Gorman on November 22, 1944, to B. J. and Dorothy Greenhaw. She attended grade school in Desdemona and graduated from Stephenville High School in 1961. She attended North Texas State University, where she graduated in 1965 with a B. S. degree in Elementary Education. She taught school in Ranger for several years before leaving the teaching profession to become the Registrar at Ranger Junior College. It was there she met and married the true love of her life, Jack Allen, who at the time was the baseball coach at Ranger Junior College. After Jack’s retirement in 1986, Linda and he moved to Stephenville, where Jack was later hired as head baseball coach at Tarleton. Linda never missed a home game during Jack’s coaching career. She was his most loyal fan.

The Allen family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Foster’s Home for Children in Stephenville.

Linda will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. To learn more or to view local obituaries for free, check out The Flash Today by clicking here: http://theflashtoday.com/category/obits/

YOUR TARLETON TEXANS ARE STILL UNDEFEATED!!!
Trailing at halftime, Tarleton State Football (6-0) was unfazed and outscored Southern Utah 24-7 in the second half to remain unbeaten in 2025 with a 52-42 victory.

"I'm really proud of our guys," head coach Todd Whitten said. "We played as bad as we can play on defense in the first half, but we had a nice turnaround in the second half. You have to tip your hat off to Southern Utah. They have a really good offense, one of the best in the country, and they showed that tonight. We did a lot of really good things. Good football teams learn how to win in all kinds of different ways. Every game we play is going to be a little bit different and we haven't had one of these games this year. You have to be ready to win no matter what."

OPINION PAGE UPDATE -- Flash Today columnist, Dr. Malcolm Cross, discusses religion and politics in today's age in this week's piece entitled, "Have Faith! (Or Not)".

ABOUT THE COLUMN:
A federal judge has blocked, at least temporarily, implementation of a recently passed state law mandating the display of the Ten Commandments in Texas public schoolrooms. Those who oppose the law claim it’s an unconstitutional promotion of religion. But there’s less chance that the law, if implemented, will promote religious indoctrination then that it will actually undermine religious faith. Whatever the outcome of this latest dispute about religion or its lack in the public school classroom, parents who want their children to be more religious should assume more responsibility for their children’s religious education themselves, rather than rely on the state to instruct their children on religious matters.
